How do I treat this 'disease'?
Comments (15)I've had a number of potted roses get the same exact leaves, usually the lower, older ones. We have gotten a lot of rain over the past week. They are in clay pots, in good organic, well draining potting soil. The pots have both a small amount of manure compost in them as well as Mills Magic Mix, and have been drying out just fine in between storms. They are very robust and blooming well. At first I was in a panic thinking virus. However, they don't have the typical virus look, and it has appeared on the virus indexed ones also. I think it is just a reaction to lots of heavy rain. As soon as I get enough time without fear of a lightening strike, I am going to give them some Mills liquid fertilizer. Sandy...See MoreCitrus Tree Leaf Disease/Fungus
Comments (3)Citrus Leafminer. It's not a fungus, it is the larvae of the CLM moth, mining through the leaf. Don't cut off the leaves, your tree needs them to respirate. If you feel compelled to treat, the best and safest treatment is a combination of Spinosad and Neem or Volk Oil (to help it stick better, and to smother the adult moths). Be sure to spray in the evening, when the bees have gone back in the hive, and if possible, to spray before blossoms appear. You can spray every 3 weeks for 3 apps. You may need to do a series of sprayings again, in the late summer/early fall, when they tend to come back in your area. Here for us in Calif., we only tend to see them in the summer, so I try to start spraying in July. Last caveat - don't use the hort oils if your temps are above 85 degrees, as you'll fry your leaves. Most folks opt not to treat, as this is mainly a cosmetic issue, unless you have very young trees and high disease pressure. Patty S. Comments (51)Mike, thank you - i really liked your wording: "It may even lose most if not all the leaves if left to wilt just once,,,but it doesn't mean certain death..Just a slow recovery if properly cared for after that.. If it is left to dehydrate more than once to the point of wilt, then it will die." So as timing would have it, I just this morning visited a friends small orchard (that i helped plant this past spring) in Walnut Creek. Evidently he treated the new plantings like mature ones and now he has a mix of citrus looking from what you have Jen; to far far worse. They are all in the ground and in well drained clay. Absolutely parched. He is out there dribbling water now. He wants evidence that they are still alive through immediate / improved leaves..., but it just isn't so with citrus! I had to repeat over and over that this is now a long road back to health. Thankfully, my suggestion of the Meyer planting location has helped it as it is in the best looking condition of all... So his Meyer will rule the dozen! -George...See Morepics of my citrus. pests?disease? please id probs or add pics too
