Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple' with clematis?
Comments (4)I like lighter colors against dark foliage: white and cream, as well as paler pinks, mauves, and lavenders. How about Guernsey Cream? I have one of those growing into a large lilac. Or Huldine, which is a white with a slight pink tint. I read somewhere to plant on the north side so that the clematis grows toward the bush, but where I tried that it grew too much into the bush, so the flowers weren't as visible. I now plant the clematis on the side I want to see it and just use bamboo stakes to guide the vine onto the shrub. Seems to work better for me. I do plant it far enough away to accommodate the shrub's growth width so that the clematis isn't too stressed for water and root competition....See MoreWhy has white coneflower changed to purple?
Comments (2)In zone 6-7 the original plant should not die out. At least not from the winter weather. Of course, it should not change color either. Is it possible your planting location is too wet, causing the mother plant to die out and the seeds to germinate easily?...See MoreSecond batch of clematis flowers different from first
Comments (5)So, Jeanne...which are the "true" Nelly Moser flowers? The giant pale white ones with the sort of pale pink stripe, or the extravagantly pink but smaller second batch of flowers? I'm just ecstatic to have it blooming at all this second year, and have it with so many new large shiny green leaves. What a contrast to the sickly runt of the nursery's litter that I planted last year! The nursery even consented to give me a discount on this Nelly because it was the last Nelly they had and it was admittedly a "loser" looking plant. I guess it liked the Plant-tone fertilizer I used, its early March pruning, and its regular watering. Go Nelly go!!...See MoreWhite flower from a purple colored bulb?
Comments (2)Yep, that is probably it. I have another Cammissia and it just finished blooming while this is starting. Looks as if I should place them together to keep color in that area. Thanks (Entry #409 in my plant list)...See Moregardengal48 (PNW Z8/9)
