Just cut back my brug.

they are calling for freezing & near freezing weather this weekend so ALL of my many plants are coming inside. had to cut the brug back by nearly 4' this year which means it grew nearly 5'!!! it also branched more heavily than ever before. i hate cutting it. it also just bloomed. at least the blooms were below the cuts.

I know what you mean, I cut back two yesterday, the other two have buds so they will come in intact. Tonight a hard freeze is predicted. I just hate this time of year!

it's getting to the point that i need to build a solarium room edition. i've run out of room. i already gave away 3 large night blooming cirrus plants. problem with cacti is you need plenty of room to walk past them....

Mrainey, I have left without putting anything on them, but I like the cut to be at a 45 degree angle. Have used the Elmer"s waterproof glue also and it works tremendously. Looks as though it will be a couple days since pruning and you getting this info. I would just leave them as they are. It they where outside and fresh cuts, then you could paint with glue. Rick

It is probably OK to cut anytime as long as you think the brug is ready to cut and the cuttings are semi mature so they will be easier to root. I think brugs will come back from the roots in your zone, so you might not even have to cut them back at all until the frost gets them, but I 'll let someone in a zone like you confirm that because I'm not sure. It probably won't stress them too much to keep them going but you'll probably get nicer blooms next year if they are allowed to go dormant. The only reason I have my brugs inside with light and warmth is because I wanted to let some of the buds that were close to opening bloom. I'll put them in the garage and/or unheated greenhouse in a week. It might even be sooner because the scent at night is so strong it's almost nauseating. I love the smell outside but 100 flowers in a closed space is too much! Karyn

If I had to do my house all over again,I'd DEMAND a room
just for my tender plants that needs wintering over inside.
I had to sacrafice soooo many blooms and buds because
there is only so much space. All of them must be in by the
weekend...it's getting cold here too.
