They got here in perfect condition and look so beautiful. I know you send me some very special brugs that mean a lot to you. They will mean a lot to me also.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

But I am supressing my joy because I am so worried about my package I send off to you and I have not heard from you. It went out early monday and everybody else got theirs real fast. I pray to god that you are just very busy and you got them already and they made it ok too.

I just had to stop painting the house and tell you right away thank you and give you a big hug.

Hey Scubadiver - what about a Greek Pastitsio? I have 2 different recipes, one uses beef and this one uses lamb. Either way it is EXCELLENT! BTW - I think I will put this on the Pasta thread too since it has elbows. Also Rob, enjoy the Ambrosia and the memory of your grandmother. I love that food reminds us of such good times in the past. Alexa ************************************************* Greek Pastitsio 1 1/2 lb. ground lamb or beef 1/4 tsp. pepper 8 oz. elbow macaroni 1/8 tsp. cinnamon 3 Tbsp. butter or margarine 1/8 tsp. oregano 1/4 cup flour 1 (10 3/4 oz.) can tomato puree 3 cups milk 1 lg. onion, finely chopped 3 eggs 1 tsp. salt 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese Prepare macaroni according to directions. Rinse with cold water; drain. Stir flour into melted butter in a heavy saucepan. Gradually stir in milk & cook until thickened, stirring occasionally. Cover & cool the white sauce. Brown the ground beef & onion in a large fry pan. Pour off drippings. Sprinkle salt, pepper, cinnamon, & oregano over beef. Stir in tomato puree & cook slowly for 10 minutes. Beat together egg, & 1/3 cup of parmesan cheese. Gently stir in macaroni. Gradually stir in 2 cups of the white sauce into the macaroni mixture. Place 1/2 macaroni mixture into a buttered 11-3/4 x 7-1/2 inch baking dish. Spoon beef mixture in an even layer over macaroni. Place remaining macaroni mixture over the beef. Pour remaining white sauce over the top. Bake in moderate 375Â° F. oven for 20 minutes. Sprinkle with remaining parmesan cheese, & continue baking 20-25 minutes, or until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let stand 15 minutes before cutting into squares.

I'm going to have to try that next time I have a small ham. I still have the 11.6 lb one in the freezer I have to do something with but that won't fit in my slowcooker. Our ham turned out well today - put foil in bottom of broiler pan, put in the ham and poured the juices from the shrink wrap over it, then brought foil up around it and sealed it tightly with double-folded seams. Warmed in preheated 325 oven for 45 min and then I was afraid my parents would be late (they weren't, but I was busy getting veggies done) so I turned the oven off and left it in another 30 min, it was very moist and not overly salty as I feared a non-smoked ham would be (and I got liquid on a scrape on my finger, so I know it WAS salted, though not salt-cured dry ham!). But it could have used some glaze or other flavoring IMHO - I think a little sugar/pineapple juice would have been nice. I hope the ham next Sunday is as good (I think I should freeze some of the leftovers, my parents only took a third of them, we're going to be tired of ham by next weekend!).

Well, you knew I'd have an opinion, didn't you? (Insert smiley face here..) The Christian celebrating of Christmas is relatively new, Easter being the highest of the holy days. The December dates for Christmas were chosen to coincide with the existing mid-winter festivals of pagan Europe, when the days began to lengthen again, and the seasons turn in the direction of spring. So the 24th (despite the fact that the actual shortest day of the year moves about a bit) reflects the moment when darkness begins to retreat, and the light comes back into the world. In my tradition, the religious season begins on the 24th (midnight), and ends at Twelfth night (January 6th). The more secular bits and the Advent celebrations start way before, and I think you should decorate when you want to, and when your family tradition says to. Some waves lap the shore, but some are tidal, and you might as well swim with them! When I was a child, we prepared for Christmas and began to celebrate through Advent - cleaning, shopping, baking, partying, that sort of thing - but we didn't put up the greenery and the creche until the week before, or decorate the tree until Christmas Eve, and we took it all down on January 6th. The youngest member of the household put the Baby Jesus into the little manger on Christmas Eve at bedtime, and the three wise men didn't get put in until the morning of the 6th. I brought those traditions along with me, until my DH finally said, couldn't we please start a little sooner? This from the humanist with Jewish heritage! So of course we did, but we always tried to put the brakes on the commercial excesses for which the children lobbied relentlessly.

If you like to bake, you can give them Cookie Coupons to use throughout the year. When my grands were that small, I made six coupons each, good for anytime during the year with a two day notice. They had their choice of their favorite five kinds of cookies, choc chip, sugar, peanut butter...whatever you decide to list. They had such a good time with this that they requested coupons for Christmas for three years afterwards. Benefits are many. They get to interact with Granma on a personal basis during the year. They get a gift that keeps giving - six times! Homemade are better (and better for them)since they are going to eat something similar anyway. Only one family lived far enough away that the cookies had to be mailed. Even that was fun since the child got real mail of her/his very own.

You guys are so lucky to have each other, to share and trade your Angels.Only a few of us are collecting Angels here in Australia at present, so it's a bit lonely.....great to see the generosity, within this community.....

Maya you have such a great selection of plants to grow down under. I ordered a bunch of seeds from Australia earlier this year. Some are doing really well and others not too good. My Kangaroo Apples bloomed well and my Hardenbergia violacea is growing well but hasn't bloomed yet. There's a bunch of others that I can't recall the names offhand. There were so many more that I wanted to try but they needed arid conditions and the humidity is just too high here to even give them a try. I'm surprised that more people don't grow brugs there. Much of the country has perfect growing conditions for them. Just curious being so near the Great Barrier Reef do you scuba dive? I took a scuba lesson in Belize and couldn't do it. I didn't think I was claustrophobic but I guess I am to a degree. I'll have to stick to snorkeling.

Not only shared Eddie ONE of HIS creations, no, I also got Doosie! He topped it off with Orange Infusion. OH yeah and one has THREE tiny buds on it..Do not remember which one at the moment.

Hi Karyn1...No I don't scuba, too claustrophobic but my 22yr old boy has his instructors licence and has a great time down there.He had his first dive at 12 yrs and met a shark going down but stayed down and has loved it all his growing years....great life here for the kids.
I also can't understand that Aussies haven't taken up the Angel craze in gardening but you never know, they might still see the light!!!!!
I also collect Plumeria's and desert roses,both species blooming outrageously now...the colours of the frangipanis are divine as is the coconut smell......

I was gonna say having friends like all of you on here is better than all those holidays. Wow you scored big time! That was really nice of Eddie. Maya, glad you have joined us on here and wish it wasn't so difficult to send things overseas. You have a great climate there for growing brugs I would think. I saw a kangaroo paw plant the other day and have wanted one for a long time. It had to be the one day I just could not get it. Went back for it today on the way home from work and it was gone, boohoo. I can't dive either. Tried it in a swimming pool once and had a panic attack. My brain just won't believe I can breath with my head underwater, lol. That is something I always wanted to do. Tried to go snorkeling in Hawaii and rented all the gear and everything and they had a really cold wind start blowing and we didn't even get in the water. The only day it was cold the whole 2 weeks we were there even though it was New Years, lol. I really really wanted to look at all the tropical fishies.

Maya... please, please share your Plumeria collection with us. Some of the Australian varieties are amazing! My wife is in love with Solar Flare or King Napranum. I will try to make it my next Plumeria acquisition. The Plumeria must look beautiful in your setting.

Eddie is a very nice and generous person. And he works like a maniac on his plants. I just wish yall could see his place and all the brugs. You would absolutely flip. I'm proud to call him my friend. I'm glad you got to work up a good trade with him Lucy, and Maya I wish too that we could send you plants. We'd love to be able to share with you!

There are a few angel collectors in Aussie that I know of. One is Chrissy (her s/n name) at dave's garden brug forum. The other is alistar at ABADS (American Brugmansia and Datura Society). He is the president of that society, I think. There are few others that I can't think of right now. Maybe if you hooked up with one of them you could broaden your horizons in Aussie -so to speak lol.

You can legally trade pollen with us U.S. folks and start lots of your own hybrids too! You can freeze it up to a year.

Also, if you join the ABADS or BGI (Brugmansia Growers International) you can get free pollens and seed withdrawls several times per year. You only pay shipping. BGI has many seeds available for other nations besides just the U.S.

Oh WOW! Lucy those are all gorgeous brugs. The Pink Perfektion is a pretty one and the color is just drop-dead gorgeous! I love the shape of the Orange Infusion as well as the Doosie. The KingMansia in one word, HUGE. What great additions to your collection. Congrats! Can't wait to see the blooms next year.

Way to go Eddie, Lucy will love those and you definitely made her day.

Thanks for those names,I'm a bit of a slueth on the internet and was able to connect with Chrissy and Alistair at the beginning of my Angel addiction.Chrissy and I have done great trades and I've even given her some of my seedsprout seeds, as she has sent me many of her seeds.Alistair has a wonderful collection and in fact, one of his hybrids, Meroo Pink is giving me all she's got, with her wonderful flushes.
Our Australian collection between about 5 of us, will grow, as we are committed to expand and bring awareness to the public of this gorgeous yet under rated plant.
I've managed to get seeds from Superspot ,Joli, Mountain Magic,Miss EilyM,Sam,TheChief,Rubriosa,Creamsickle,Painted Lady,Pink Smitty,Pink Perfecktion just to name a few, off the top of my head.
Cuttings of these beauties would be much better but because of our Aussie Quarantine, this would never be allowed so we can propagate from seeds.
I hope I'll have some beauties to share soon...Mya
