I've been stripping all day! lol!

Been busy working on the plantroom & stripping! lol! Maybe by tomorrow I'll be done - but I don't think so!

Twenty four more Brugs to dig & strip! Most have buds & blooms! Gonna hate 'snipping' here & 'snipping' there!

I hate this time of the year! Looks so dismal!! Cleaning up is what's going to be the mess!

Ok - back to work I go!!

Turns out you were just doing what we're all doing in some form or another!
I've spent hours today bringing in the last of my plants in anticipation of a killing frost tonight!

Whoa Mike, thems a bunchabrugs. I decided to just leave a number of 'duplicates' out to the tender mercies of Jack Frost and managed to whittle the herd down to 25 pots to lug down into the basement,um thats plus all the colocasias and trays of rooted cuttings to carry over under lights.
Today was Dahlia and canna day so they're in tubs drying in the laundry room........good thing I have a really tolerant spouse, LOL.
Tomorrow is get the netting over the pond day then the major stuff will be done.
Already thinkin about next year,

luna, the eggs were plastic and some were wood. Most were those cheapy pastel plastic eggs you can buy in the Easter section right now. Kudzu, I have lots of rusty springs too, but they are the kind that are fat on one end and skinny on the other. Trying to decide what to do with them. Wish they were fat on both ends and skinny in the middle! You should post a picture of yours!

Peat makes an excellent preservative. The modern horticultural practice of using a sterile medium like peat is in order to create a hydroponic environment, that can force-feed plants into rapid production. I've found a few nurseries who grow in-pot organically, and they avoid peat. I don't see large chunks of pine bark in their soil medium, either. Some use rainwater to irrigate, most are wholesale and at least one is open to the public. Transplanting and establishment ease have been outstanding with these trees grown organically with a comost-based medium. Some use pots that are designed to eliminate circling roots. This is a far superior product, that establishes and plants easier, than any tree grown in peat, or in a plastic pot. It's really a leap were speaking of, for a root to make the transition from an extremely acidic, sterile medium to a nearly neutral, live mineal soil. It ain't natural, and creates unnecessary stress on the plant when it needs it least-- during root establishment. But we grow potted plants in peat, anyways. Modern horticularal practices do not serve the grower so well, Most of the potted trees and plants you'll find in a retail nursery, have been force fed to grow lots of pretty foliage, in a poor soil medium, with underdeveloped and potbound roots. I know peat is good at preserving cave people and tubulars. But as a potting medium, it's used becasuse it is thought to be cheap, and that's the bottom line. There are conflicts of interest between the grower and the hulticulturalist who pushes peat as a pot medium. A lot of the carp they teach in hort school (and ag school, and other fields), has a bias towards perceived economic benefits, and can ignore for years, better, sounder science. I am ever more hopeful for an entire summer of hummers next season! -Thank you all for sharing your experiences and for your encouragement and support. : ) Oubliette, I have yet to hear the voice of a hummingbird -well, in the feather, that is (have heard recordings though), but I did once catch wind of the hum of this one's wings! -a unique sound, that! It's good to know that they have a voice -I look forward to listening in! You don't say, jenny! -way up on the 18th floor?!!! -I had no idea the heights these wee wildlings would go to! I really must share this with a friend of mine who's balcony is 15 lower than that -Wow, I would have never guessed! Thank you for sharing. I know I'll likely never see the numbers that California Frank is graced with (just saw his photo album - Wow! -hummingbird heaven!), but one, two or even a few jewels setting claim on my small urban garden will fit just right. I totally understand Mike...I just finished myself packing my greenhouse...We're supposed to get down to 29' tonight...BooHoo...I don't like this time of year either, but whatcha gonna do...Dream of Spring.

Mike, When you are done can you come over and strip here??? LOL!!!
With my jammed finger on the left hand that won't bend and a healing separated rib on the right side plus my knees that are awaiting surgery I don't know when I will get mine in. Most are in pots, but some need to be dug. You amaze me with the amount of time, effort and love that goes into your brugs!

Thats what I have been doing all day today and Im still
not done, does`nt that just hurt your biggest feelings to
have to strip those flower buds off???
It`s supposed to get down to 38 tonight.
I go to Home Depot or Lowes and buy the broken bags of
potting soil, I think Im going to have to get more and a
few more flower pots to get everything done!

I was gonna say, it must be warmer there than here because it's too damp and chilly to do any stripping! :-)

That's a lot of work! You must have a huge area to store them!

I have to start thinking about digging now.

Mike, you have been busy. Isn't strange how things work out. All summer I saw beautiful plants in bloom. Now that it is cooler, my brugmansia decide they want to bloom. The good news is I went down this weekend, and their are 2 brugmansia that are blooming that I have never seen before. One is a georgia peach, and the other is a double white, that I got from a cutting last fall from Mike. I am so excited, I now have two doubles that like it at the coast. Barbra,

Darn Mike you have been really busy with all that stripping you have to get done.Here it has been cool and wet,need to start thinking of digging some of the angels and potting them up for the winter nap.
