Can you root a brug cutting like a Plumeria?

Hello all. Just went to my first plant fair. Loved it! This is definitely how I am going to plant shop in the future!

Anyway, someone was selling frosty pink brug cuttings, about 2" thick x 16" long for $2. They had a couple of little leaf buds. The guy (who seemed pretty knowledgeable) said he roots them all the time just like you do with a plumeria.

I figured for $2, I'd give it a shot...especially since all my plummie cuttings took with no problem (and some despite very short stick and soft sticks).

Has anyone else rooted brugs like this or have advice on rooting brugs (sticks or otherwise)?

Yes, they can be rooted the same way as you do plumeria. IMO they are easier to root than plumies and Frosty Pink is an especially easy brug to root.

I have lots of Brugs but none are old enough to get cuttings from. I just got started in them myself. I would love to have a cutting from your Plumeria. Look at my list and see if you might want to trade for something. Or I could send you a cutting from Datura Double Blackcurrant Swirl if you are interested. It is like the Brug. You can root green ones easiest if you do them like a small tip cutting and make a little humidity dome for them. I use the tall take out chinese soup clear container. Put perlite in the bottom few inches with holes in the lid and the bottom and water it well then put the lid on and watch for roots. When you start seeing them crack the lid open a little more each day until its off then you can transfer it to a little pot. You can use the little mini greenhouse things too but you might want to do it in a bright window if its really hot outside or at least in the shade. If they are pretty firm and not wimpy green you won't need to lid but use rooting hormone on the green ones. Its not too late to start seeds as long as you can keep them growing over the winter the first year.

Believe it or not, they can be rooted in the ground in the spot you plan to leave them. I have rooted them in water also, but the ones I rooted in gallon containers and in the ground have grown well and been heavy bloomers.

When rooting a Brugmansia, it really depends on the variety you obtain is how you should go about rooting that cutting. B. Frosty Pink can be rooted in water and/or soil.

So is putting brugs under direct sun okay too when rooting like we do with plumerias?

Chanbr, as one newbie to another...I just dipped mine in rooting powder, and put it in a clay pot on the patio, water thoroughly and lo & behold...there's a new shoot! They're been out in the full Florida sun of a dome screened patio for 5 days! I also noticed a shoot on the mexican sunflower stick I bought and am trying to root the same way! I know there is no way these babies have roots yet but obviously they are happy enough in the sun!
