Have your ever divided any muhly's? I'm wondering about the 2 undaunted Muhly's I moved, they looked punk all season like big grasses aways do when you move a mature clump. I'm wondering if I should dig them out and divide them to make smaller plants like those you have up there? Mine originally filled out fairly quickly. I planted them in fall and by the next year they made nice sized blooming plants, then the next year they were 3ft wide which was bigger than HCG had indicated. By the way, they changed the name, they were called 'Autumn Glow' back before HCG closed their local store and quit selling as many natives. Maybe they changed it since they glow in summer, not autumn? I wish they'd go back to selling those hard to find natives like they used to carry. The ones you bought look like 2 year old plants judging by the old growth that was trimmed back at the base or maybe they are divisions from a large plant?

"...I watered the agave" Oops. BAD IDEA. No roots = no ability to take up water. It will take many weeks, if not months before the plant is ready to accept watering. Pull it up, check the stem. If there is rot, cut the stem until it looks clear, then callous in the shade for a week, plant in dry soil, and do not water until it has roots. Keep it in part shade. You will know it has roots when it has new growth, or when a very slight tug on the plant shows resistance. Do not check this way for 4-8 weeks. Do not give it more water. Pull it up and save it.

Oh, here's another flower - A scabiosa (pincushion)-like flower called, Knautia macedonica "Red Knight". There is also a "Red Knight" bell pepper sold at Johnny's Seeds. Beautiful! I have two corkscrew willows that make fine wizard's walkingsticks and wands, among other things. Trimmed limbs make awesome Medieval garden arches, too, by the way. I have one huge tree that recently died and it will become a garden arch for roses. All herbs came to be associated for charms, powers and magical spells because of their healing properties. Tinctures, tonics and ointments were concocted for 'magical purposes' and healings. Some have names, like Feverfew or Lungwort, that give us clues to how they were used. Perhaps a circular herb garden with a wizard statue in the middle or a crystal seer/charm stone on a small stone bench. Even a Sundial would look great and be in keeping with your D&D garden. Crystal Charm Stones really did exist at one time, btw. My ancestral family in Scotland had one in antiquity. Although I cannot personally vouch for whether it worked as claimed, apparently many people believed that it possessed amazing powers. The miracles performed with it were 'documented' with testimonials and no one could ever disprove them . The possession of it was the cause of not a few wars! It was said to heal the sick (humans & animals) by dipping the stone into water and having the afflicted person or animal drink the water. It was carried into battle by the Chieftain as it was believed to give him visions and knowledge for defeating their foes. It is now in a national museum in Scotland, under lock and key by order of the British monarchy! :) I have a photo of it. SweetAnnie4u

That's interesting. I just had another look. The wild type has 2 splits in the same leaf. Of course, there's no vertical variegation on it, but both splits are along the same thin place in a striation. The split on the Bantel's Sensation is right along the variegation, just as you describe. Interestingly, it is growing. It was just an inch or two the other day, but now it is almost the full length of the leaf and the tip of the leaf is only held together by a few millimeters of tissue. There's no visible scar, so it doesn't look bad, but I think the leaf is going to be two pieces soon. Thanks for info, Stush.
