Weird things growing from my orange tree?

BackInAZ

I've had citrus trees so I'm familiar with ordinary suckers. We recently bought a new house and it has a productive orange tree with notably nice oranges - sweet and effectively seedless. In recent weeks, I noticed what I thought at first were weeds growing under it. I tried to pull them out but they were really tough to get out - and I'm not a weakling. We hadn't unpacked our lawn tools yet so one thing led to another and they're still there. In short order they began to almost resemble tomatoes, producing tomato-like blossoms that turn into clusters of small green round fruits/berries that turn dark. This weekend, we tried once again to pull them out but they actually appear to be growing from the roots of this tree. This is a house in the Phoenix metro area. Any ideas of what these things are?
