New grower Rio Red Grapefruit variety

I live in south texas and planted a Rio Red Grapefruit in my back yard last November. It came from a nursery and is about one inch in diameter and about 3 feet tall. I have been fertilizing it and watering it as directed mainly on this forum. It now has lots of new growth and is covered in flowers. Do I need to pick off the flowers since it is new. I also would like to know if you have any other tips to help out a first time grower with a new plant.
