What Are Your Longest Blooming Perennials?
Comments (39)Great conversation! I didn't see Purslane- technically its not a perennial, but it does come back from seed = great ground cover, gorgeous flowers and whole plant is delicious in salads or by itself with a little balsamic vinegar. For ongoing perennials: I have five acres,so I'm limited on how many flowers I can keep that require "tending". I have an assortment of hedge roses that bloom spring through fall. Honeysuckle of several varieties. The kind of old fashioned orange daylily that naturalizes (don't know the name)- it blooms constantly too. Sunflowers, that I think came out of my feeding the birds (and some "mammoth sunflowers" - that have regular blooms but the plant is 12 ft high) = both bloom all summer through to frost....See Morewhats your longest blooming perennial for full sun
Comments (32)Modern Roses Veronica "Sunny Border Blue" Nepeta Russian Sage Verbena Bon. Coreopsis Vert. "Moonbeam" *** Dianthus Int. "Ideal" or "Bouquet" *** Gaura "Siskuyu Pink" Only the first category are really perennials. The Dianthus hybrids are theoretically annuals, but keep coming back for me. But then the Gaura is supposed to be a perennial, but blooms like an annual - and dies out in winter like on too! I only buy it if it's priced like an annual....See MoreLongest blooming clematis for an obelisk?
Comments (1)Daniel Deronda is a deep blue-purple which would look stunning with a coral rose. Mine bloomed for the first time last year and wasn't without at least one flower from late May until frost. It's a type 2 prune which I don't always have great luck with, but this one is a stunning plant. Rhapsody is another medium dark type 2 blue-purple which I've read in several places has a very long bloom period, though I don't grow it. Also check out BLUE ANGEL 'Blekitny Aniol' 'Emilia Plater' 'Prince Charles' I don't know how large your obelisk is, but be aware of the size of the clematis you decide on so that it is suited to the space available. You can look up clematis on the Clematis on the Web website linked below, but in my experience, the color of the photos may be misleading, so read the color descriptions which are probably more accurate. Blue is a difficult color to photograph accurately. Here is a link that might be useful: Clematis on the Web search page...See Morelongest bloom time
Comments (2)'Rozanne' :-) I bought 4 in bloom in June after reading all the comments here. They have been blooming non stop and still going strong. The one in partial shade is doing much better than those in full sun. People complained that she flopped. I won't mind that at all. I like floppy and sprawling plants. My 'Patricia' is 4 years old and has not bloomed much at all. Only a few flowers a year. She was planted only a few feet from the best performing 'Rozanne'. I will get more 'Rozanne' next spring. :-P...See Moreredsox_gw
