transplanting clematis??

I have a couple I would like to transplant that are in the ground newly planted last year. Could I move them now and they be ok? Also I can never remember when to prune the ones I have. Several of them are putting out new leaves and buds way up on the vine and then new shoots way down at the bottom. Is there an easy way to tell if I need to prune it hard each year or if I am suppose to leave all the vine in tact. Thanks, Judy
