Can I transplant Clematis from the ground to a container?

I'm new to clematis - just planted my first one last year. I'm not sure of the variety, but I got it at Lowe's and it had bluish purple single flowers. The vine died back over the winter and I guess I didn't think it would come back. I'm moving now and just noticed that it has put out new growth and is already flowering. It's planted in the ground, but the ground at the new house is not ready for plants yet (new construction - no beds yet). Can I dig up the clematis and put it in a pot to grow in on the patio? If so, what is the best way to do this? It just looks like a small pile of vines on the ground right now - it hasn't affixed it's new vines to the little trellis that it grew on last year yet. Should I try to bring it with me or will it survive going from the ground to a pot?
