What Mike suggest is exactly what I would do.lol Of course I have a weak spot when it comes to sparing sick plants of their demise. For some reason, it makes me feel good that I can handle such a feat. It's funny about me, but when I see a plant for sale that looks like h*ll, I tend to grab it and find myself having a good time bringing it back from such an aweful state. call me crazy if you would like. You certainly have to have the patience to accomplish such a feat and the know how. The know how will come from being a part of this forum along with persistence in learning. The patience, well, not everyone is up to that. The fact that you have green cambium tells me there is hope, that is if you are willing to look at such an ugly/ oops,cute tree if so that is what you choose to think of it.:-) Please make sure that mix is coarse enough to allow proper drainage and encourage much new root growth. Provide LOTS of sunlight and NO fertilizer until you see its first sign of growth. Make sure the mix you choose dries out evenly and rapidly. Mike:-)

That is great to hear. The weather we're suppsed to get will help. Sun and low high 70s-low 80s which they actually like better than the 90s we've had. I got sick of screwing around my pineapple plants so I put them in the ground in late April. The new shoots in the center started to pull out after some nights in the 30s. I noticed the other day that with all of this rain and heat they are starting to come back. I know they won't make it through the winter but they could look really good by the end of summer.

If, as you say, the plant hasn't suffered from frost, then the problem is almost certainly due to watering. Over-watering leads to root rot and branch dieback, but my guess in this case is under-watering. Once they are dry, some potting soils are very hard to re-wet and water frows straight out around the sides. I would carefully remove the whole thing from its pot and see if parts of the soil are completely dry. If so, you need to soak it completely immersed in a large bucket of water (not too cold) for 24 hours. You can see new growth just starting in your photo. Wait until this grows a bit more before cutting off the dead branches. But this growth will need enough moisture to grow as temperatures increase. Citrus in pots must never be soggy, but never allowed to dry out completely either.

ABC, your pot looks like one of those heavy ones with one tiny hole, therefore the water will not drain fully out of that pot, takes longer wait time between watering. I see the tree has lots of roots, give it time to come back. I personally hate those heavy pots with one little hole in them, every one of my containers have lots of holes and they are plastic, except my two house plants in clay pots. When I buy a container and it has very few holes in it, I always drill lots of holes myself, so the water can drain fast and not stay around the roots for too long.
