I'm saying those prayers, Kristy. I'm so sorry that you and John are going thru this so soon after Mercedes. My buddy, Kramer, was diagnosed with liver disease, about the same time you told us about Mercedes. We thought he was lost. He is finally responding to the meds, and getting his appetite back. We too know that he won't be with us as long as we'd like, but we will enjoy every healthy day he has, as I know you will with Goldie. Our other pretty dog, Peg, helps a lot. They give us so much, don't they?

I'm so sorry for you. Goldie probably misses Mercedes too. I wish big dogs did live longer. Newfs only live about 9 years. AbbiRose is 9 1/2 in spite of eating chocolate & overdosing on raisins. We give them the best care we can when they are with us & try to keep them as long as we can. Animals do not fear death like people, we are the ones who are lost because we have been left behind. Give your buddy & your hubby a hug from me.

Thanks everyone. It is much harder on us than them. All they want is to please us. Too bad its not like that with more people. Bob I'm sorry to hear about Kramer. I hope he is with you a while longer. I really hope the medicine helps enough so that both of them are able to still have a good life. The thing I dread the most is having to make a decision to put her down. I was glad Mercedes did not have to have that decision and I hope I never have to do it. I am going to have to make a point to take her to the lake more often. She loves it there. She has missed Mercedes and I thought that was what was wrong with her at first but I knew she wasn't herself already for a while. Its just been getting worse. I'm glad I went ahead and took her so the medicine can help her. I didn't realize she was as sick as she really is. BB is going to be lonely by herself but I don't think we are going to be ready to get another dog for a while to keep her company. The other thing they think may be wrong with Goldie is cushings disease. They want to do more blood work in a couple of weeks if she doesn't get any better. Its hard to tell with dogs whats wrong because they can't say what hurts. Thank you all for your prayers.

Oh, Kristy, so soon after Mercedes? Goldie probably does miss Mercedes. I am so sorry for the pain and sorrow you are suffering. My heart just dropped when I saw your thread heading.

Kristy, I will keep you and John and the furries in my prayers. Mike I will also say a prayer for Kramer. As a person owned by my pets I know how attached we get to each other. Each one has its own personality but they love us unconditionally.

Yes,I know I couldn't believe it either. I thought it was because she had gained so much weight from being off her thyroid meds was making it hard for her to breath and getting tired so easy. Its just too soon to think about this again. Goldie is especially attached to me and won't let anybody near me when I am sick. I guess because Mercedes was so bonded with John she bonded with me after we started dating. Poor little devil dog BB doesn't understand why nobody feels like playing with her tonight. I am going to go out and throw the ball with her a little bit and go to bed. I'll talk to you all tomorrow.

When I read the thread heading I got saddened. I figured it was something bad. I'm really sorry about 'Goldie.' Enjoy the time. Memories are good - you know? Having six of my own - I know it's in the cards that I'll eventually have to go through something like what you & John are going through. Hope my heart can take it. They're part of the family - no matter what some people might say. I've always remembered the following line - 'Animals love you unconditionally - whereas people sometimes don't.' And seriously - that's true I think. My thoughts will be with you, John, and 'Goldie.' If there's anything I can do - please let me know.

It has been a year of bad things happening but I have so much to be thankful for. Namely all of you. I am glad I have so many friends on here to cheer me up when something bad happens. Thanks everyone.

Oh Kristy, I am so sorry to hear about Goldie. You have had a rough year and hate to hear something else getting you. I know hearing what the vet had to say had to be hard on you. Try to keep your spirits up and I so hope the meds help Goldie.

Thanks Deb, I know it is not a long term solution but she seems a little perkier today so I feel a lot better. We are going to take them to the lake this weekend. I'm glad she seems to be feeling a little better at least for the moment. All I can hope for is a little while longer for her to feel well enough to enjoy things and then go peacefully. I will try not to think about it and enjoy what time we have left with her. I was worried she wouldn't tolerate the meds but she is so far and that tail wagging makes me a happy lady. It was bad seeing her looking at me with the sad eyes. She is usually such a happy dog. Nice to see her doggie smile today.

I am so sorry to hear about Goldie and have added her to my nightly prayers. All we can do is love them and make their time as wonderful as possible. They trust us with their care and seem to know we are doing our best to care for them. Sending healing wishes and warmest hugs to your beloved Goldie.

Kristy, when I saw this thread I actually thought someone brought an old thread back..I am so saddened to hear your dog is so sick after you having to loose Mercedes ! I will keep Goldie and our family in my prayers !

Thanks Kym, she is more comfortable today at least so I hope she will prove the doctors wrong at least for a good while longer with the medicine. Time to go to bed. If she is feeling up to it we are taking the two doggies to the lake tomorrow afternoon.

Kristy, sometimes we want to do all we can for them, but we can't. I'm still grieving Capi, our yorkie terrier/chow who we put to sleep three weeks ago. He had a hernia between two disks in his spinal chord that was pinching his spinal chord. Poor piru was paralyzed from the hind legs literally OVERNIGHT. It was really hard for us to do, but Capi was in a lot of pain and i couldn't stand seeing him whimper and cry. When i had to move him around because he couldn't do it himself, he would nibble gently on my hand to let me know it really hurt him. It was just too hard. I hope she gets better.

Definately praying for healing for Goldie and Kramer and praying for peace for you central_cali. I'm glad to hear Goldie seems to be feeling better today.

So sorry to hear that Central cali. That is the worst kind of decision to make but you did the right thing. I couldn't stand to see Goldie in pain either. She just seemed lethargic and breathing so hard. She is breathing normally now but still not as perky as usual. I think we will wait til tomorrow to take her to the lake. I woke up not feeling well again too. I keep getting this earache and sore throat and now my gums are swollen as well. I guess I will have to go to the doctor myself Monday. Its such a nice day today too. Cloudy and cool.
