Moving jade plant outdoors

My husband and I have a large jade plant (about 3' across) in a 12" ceramic pot. Right now it's in a window where it gets partial sun. We never brought it outside before. I'm concerned about it because there are branches dropping off and it has been neglacted because I'm not there often.

I would like to move it to our vacation home on the Eastern Shore area of Virginia about eight miles from the shore. It would go on our deck in a sunny location. We would like to repot it in a bigger pot and trim it back, too. Our neighbors in Virginia say they get dew every morning. Do you think it would kill the plant? Is this a bad time to repot and trim it? Also, would the hot Virginia summer kill it? Should we plant it in sand or potting soil?

Thanks!
