Comments (27)Okay, Smith Red Valencia is frequently available - I would try calling around your local larger garden centers. Usually Walter Andersen Nursery in Poway or San Diego has it or can get it, same with Armstrong Nurseries - they can usually find one for you. Not sure if Clausen's has them, you can try calling them to see. Lee x Nova is carried by Walter Andersen in Poway, that's where I got mine. Valentine is propagated by Durling Nursery in La Paz/Fallbrook. That is a HOOF, let me tell you, but they do deliver, and frankly, it's worth the delivery charge as they are way, way the heck west of Fallbrook literally out in the middle of nowhere (almost up against the east side of Camp Pendelton). You can also ask them if they ship their Valentine's to a nursery close to you, and possibly set up a special order with your local nursery through Durling's. CCPP allows you to order budwood. You would have to know how to cleft of bud graft, you would have to purchase rootstock, and you'd have to have the ability to keep your grafted trees in a moist environment. Citrus grafting is a little trickier than, say, stone fruit grafting. And, there is a wait of several years before you would see a tree large enough to support fruit. Comments (3)EZ, I've heard that orange/mandarin grafts topworked onto grapefruit trees can produce bland tasting fruit. Therefore, I would suggest that grapefruit or pommelo stock would not be the best choice. I would guess that any of the others would be fine. "Kishu" does indeed produce a small fruit, so you might consider grafting it onto a small-fruited mandarin or tangelo. I bet that it would probably do fine topworked onto an orange, but a graft's small "Kishu" fruits might stand out against a canopy filled with larger oranges. If this doesn't bother you aesthetically, then you could try this as well. I did get two "Kishu" buds to take on a "Trovita" orange, although they haven't sprouted yet. If they do, I'll eventually be able to provide you with more wood, if your current buds don't take....See MoreSeedless Kishu Mandarin
Comments (3)Andrea, I know it's a bit of a drive for you, but happened upon a nursery in Riverside that has Kishu. They also have a discount coupon on website. Originally, I was looking at Tom Spellman's (Dave Wilson) speaking calendar and noticed he would be there next month; followed the link and saw the Mandarins.. Comments (7)Curling leaves usually means a lack of water I would try watering with Warm water. In the winter I water all my citrus trees 85 degree water to warm the roots so they can take in water. If the root zone or soil falls below 55 degrees the tree can't take up water or nutrients. The tree ends up slowly dying of thirst. After you water the tree with warm water if the leaves don't uncurl by the next day you no that's not it And its something else root relate. If the second being the case I would carefully slide it out of its pot to investigate for root problems. Also I did not notice any supplemental lights does the tree get adequate sunlight. Hope this helps pic of root zone would be helpful to help u if u have to go there. Trace This post was edited by Tcamp30144 on Sun, Feb 1, 15 at 17:51...See Morekquat
