Aloe Vera Plant

Hi Folks

I hope some one will be able to help me. My daughter purchased an Aloe Vera plant for me 2 years ago in Lanzarote. I took very good care not to over-water it and it seemed to be doing well. It was getting big for its small pot and I repotted it into a bigger one. I noticed at the time that there did not seem to be much in the way of roots on it. Now there seem to be no roots at all and leaves are falling off from the bottom. I know that I did the wrong thing - as I used ordinary potting compost, and tried to rectify this by repotting again adding sand and grit. It still seems to have no roots although there is some growth from the centre. Can anyone advise on how to save my plant. I live in Scotland and the plant is situated in my kitchen. Sorry for the length of my post. Regards Janey
