Pattie you are just so lucky! AND such a nice host. Helping the little guy out lol. Now I have a question. From the shape it looks like a spynx moth. But it is different then what I have here. So they come in different colors...male female? Now how come mine is there in the morning? I guess I should look if he ...she is there at night too. But I am scared I run into the armadillo or the tarantulas lol

That is so cool. I always see a type of Sphinx moth around here but I have never seen it in my brugs, It is always at the petunias all around. I have never seen it landed like that, it is always in flight looking like a wierd hummingbird/bug combo.

eeeewwww, Lucy, you have tarantulas? That's one critter I can do without and if someone tells me that they are good for the garden I will scream....Sorry, but if I saw one I would have my DH get rid of it. eeeeeeewwwwww!

I usually have a few togethe and the color and patterns are the same, just a size differents. I had to keep my dogs from eating them. They are fearless. They are usually out here at dusk and night. Haven't seen any in the moring, just the real hummers.LOL
Can't handle spiders, I would just FREEEEEEEK!!! Do occationally have scorpions and they freak me out too. Make sure you wear shoes when you go out. :o)

Deb, you should get to know my son. I raised him loveing animals. The other day, I have a bucket under the waterspout in the front yard. I looked inside and saw a baby tarantula. REally have a fear of spiders. Do you all wanna hear why? was that a YES?
When I first lived in TX. I still wore pantyhoses. Man you do not have to continue reading this lol,
Anyways I was putting it on in the small bathroom we have. ONe foot ....then the other. Lighting was not to bright. Anyways. Pantyhose was up to my knees when I looked down to my foot. INSIDE was the biggest spider I have ever seen. Slowly oh so slowly I took calmly off that hose. Threw it in the corner and then screamed bloody murder lol

Now aren't you glad I shared this with all you spider lovers hahahahahahaha

But my son instead of killing that baby T. He took it out of the water and carried it back into my porch flowerbed where the holes are from them hahahahahahhaha

Amazing photos. They are cool little creatures. My dog almost ate one last year. It just sat right in his face and would only back up when she snapped at it. Good things they are fast, lol. Lucy you keep those spiders up there, lol. I have only seen one scorpion here and it was a couple of years ago. You can keep those too, lol.

luckily I have not seen one yet either since I first lived here and one came up from under the ironing pad. Back then I thought it was a great idea to iron in the garage and keep the house cooler. WEll that skorpion was flat and hot in a heartbeat lol
Today of course I do not try to harm any living thing. But there are exceptions.

OMG, Lucy, I was afraid to read about you and the tarantula. Since I have arachnaphobia, I WOULD HAVE SCREAMED MYSELF INTO PASSING OUT!!

Yet, I'm like your son- I rescue most beneficial critters. I fished a 4" Mantis out of the dogs water yesterday morning- that does not bother me, I was just worried he would jump out of my hand and the dogs would get him, before I got him out of their pen. But spiders- someone else has to rescue them. We have spiders just short of tarantulas in size here in our Georgia woods and a few always make their way inside the house. Ooooo, my feet are getting that creepy feeling, and I have to consciously resist bringing them up on the chair where I'm sitting!!!! LOL!
And I'm better about it than I used to be. And we do have the little brown scorpions- one nailed my a few years ago in bed. Felt literally like a red-hot needle going into my arm about 2"- swole up for 3 weeks. Ya don't want one of them to sting ya!!

Well, we call your moth a hawk moth or hummingbird moth around here, and I have not seen any in a few years- a shame! fantastic photos!

You all are such weenies! Spiders are so cool and yes they are one of your garden's best friends! I never kill spiders and really wouldn't mind having them in the house if they didn't freak everyone else out. lol Well I wouldn't want a brown recluse in the house but just about any other kind is alright. I like going out early when the dew is still covering everything. You can see some amazing webs that had been made overnight. BTW some species of tarantulas made good pets.

I got bit by a brown recluse spider when we were cleaning out our basement one fall. I was moving alot of boxes around and saw this little brown spider and didn't think much about it. I didn't even know I had gotten bitten because you don't really feel it. I had some crop pants on and it had bitten right above the inside of my ankle. The next day I found this little hole about the size of a dime in my leg! I was in my 20's and did not have diabetes or anything and I couldn't figure out how the heck I got a hole in my leg! I went to work and showed this Dr. and he said that is a brown recluse bite - floored me... Anyway they just put me on some antibiotics and it healed up pretty good. I'm just glad it wasn't any worse, I've seen some real horror stories. I still love spiders though :)

The only night time visitors I get is that d*mn armadillo...LOL .. I was out @ 5:30 this morning but he had already left his mark.. .I catch him and he will be Armadillo heaven... We have Tarantula's I love them and I keep a couple of house spiders in the kitchen just so can watch them catch flies..

The brown recluse I am really worried about just because how dangerous they are when they bite you.

I saw one again this morning in the front of the house. But it was still dark. I just shot photos. But only one shows it somewhat ok. Think it was the kind you had in your brugs pattie.

I have the creepy crawlers now and yes my feet ARE in the chair. Not ashame to admit it either..LOL But I must say some of these stories are comical. :)

Yes I am a spider wienie. Get this..I inspect all of my clothes inside and out before I put them on. And I always to a "bug check" every night checking the bed for any critters before I get between the sheets.

My story, well one of my stories. Years ago we were laying in bed when I kept feelling something on my face. I kept brushing it off just thinking it was my own hair. Told my husband that I thought something was in bed with us and he just blew it off saying nothing is in bed. Well, the third time I felt it move so I wacked it off and heard it hit the bedroom wall. I went to turn on the light and then a scream of terror woke the house up. (we were visiting my mother at the time) Yes...it was a freakin tarantula. My heart was racing, eveyone came to see what all the commotion was and all I could do was point and say spider.
Good thing I was young at the time because I don't think my heart would take a scare like that now. I am a spider wiener and yes my feet are Still up in the chair. lol

You all take care now. Don't let the bed bugs bite LOL.

Poor little tarantula though I would freak out if one woke me up. I couldn't imagine 8 little legs skittering across my face while I was sleeping, ick!

Lucy that skin looks a bit big for a Garter snake but it is cool looking.

Kylie Gavin is such a boy! lol I bet you he'd pick it up if it were alive. You have some of the cutest pics of him with critters. BTW I want an armadillo!!! Do they dig stuff up? What do they do besides play dead or curl up in a ball? Can you keep them as pets?

Karyn couln't you just have said a little white lie lol Now I got to find out who and where that living snake is hanging out. But thanks. Since not all critters are friendly. lol Karyn about the Armadillo. Usually they leave the well established plants alone. They dig where ever there is nothing. So yes they safe a lot of work by loosening up your dirt lol. But on the sad side is that some plants they get to close to like 4 o clocks or so and then the plant falls over and does not recover. But the sadest loss I had because of the armadillo was my one and only brug seedling I was able to sprout. My fault thou, I should have not put that little bogger that was only on its 2nd set of leafes out in the bed. I just do not like it that now he made his sleeping tunnel right in my flowerbed by the garage door. He went right under the rocks that I placed all around it. Have not seen him yet thou. I think they are cute how they waddle along. And pretty fast too.
If mine ever gets tired here I can try to catch him and you can have him lol ...you know I love to share.

Karyn they PLOW!! I finally dug up a few 3' Banana's becoz he kept digging them up..most up everyday I have to go out clean up the mess and they will leave 2~3" divets throughout your grass.. I HATE them..

Is that the butterfly ginger called 'Luna Moth'? I have one and its just starting to set buds, its in a too small of pot right now and gets too dried out I think. Great photos.

Yes, That's my ginger. I just know it as white butterfly ginger lilies. Got it from my Aunt several years ago and now It is everywhere. Love it cause it smells soooo good, but cannas have nothing on this one in regards to multiplying. It needs dividing yearly unless you have lots of room.

P.S. I guess my Armadillo is well behaived roflmao. He is really more help then he ever destroys. Got to ask my son if he told him to behaive or else rolf again.
But then he was called on federal orders from the national guard to go help with the hurricane.......again. So I just have to assume that this one is just a baby and does not know that he can do MORE damage lol

Pattie I love the sphinx moth pics. I ususaly can't get them to hold still long enough to get a pic. I was surprised I got the one to sit on my hand last week. I'll trade you all in the south a groundhog for a dillo. lol Sounds like they do the same kind of damage. Lynette I thought my butterfly gingers were really late this season because they are just getting buds so I was surprised to hear that yours are just budding up too. I hope mine have time to bloom before the first frost.

karyn, I don't know why mine are so late. Some other people's have aleady bloomed and I saw a bunch of butterfly peach gingers blooming away in their pots at home depot. Some of my other gingers have bloomed and my dancing ladies are still blooming. Hope yours bloom in time, put one in the greenhouse if they don't so you can at least enjoy it this year.
