Which Sunset zone are you in? How much space does it need to cover?

Pink Jasmine will grow about anywhere, including into any neighboring trees and shrubs. It blooms all the time, smells good. It isn't too rampant if you don't overwater it. Mine live on one gallon drippers.

No room for a shade tolerant,shrubby rose like "Darlow's Enigma?" Blooms all the time, perfect foliage, smells good. It will be about 8 x 8 in time. Mine lives on a northern exposure against a solid wall and has never seen a day of disease. While you could train it as a climber, you wouldn't want to because of the prickles.

My Altissimo is very repeat blooming, disease free and moderate in size. It's a red single. I've never tried the climbing Iceburg, but if it is like the non-climbing form, it would be a winner too.

Both of Davissue's suggestions are good. I would add the Sally Holmes rose. It is almost constantly in bloom with each cluster many large creamy white blooms. It tolerates partial shade and resists fungus diseases. It is grown on its own root and establishes quickly. Al

Jenn, Royal Sunset is not a huge climber. Beautiful salmon blooms with a delicious scent. You could add in a clematis and have some great color.

I have a climbing Don Juan in a similar spot which does great! It does get a bit of mildew in spring and fall, but other than that, I have no complaints and it's gorgeous red blooms are a real stand out.

Thanks everyone for the nice suggestions.

Cass - As a matter of fact, I dug up a huge Darlow's Enigma and gave it to someone last month. It was too big and bushy for the spot it was in and also for this one. I'd like something that is easier to grow right on the fence, like a vine or climber.

All of the suggestions sound wonderful. I'll do some research and see what might work best in this spot.

I had a St. Joseph's Coat climber years back. Vigorous and I loved that it had all different colors from red to yellow to orange. It had full sun and was disease-free.

Look into using Neem Oil to treat your blackspot, rust, etc.
I bet someone in the Rose forum could help you.

Some of the English climbers might work for your 1/2-day sun location.

I have a Cecile Bruner "bush" that has climbed to about 6 feet. It has repeat blooms. The Cecile Bruner "climber" will not repeat bloom. Getting about 8 hours sun on a trellis. No diseases so far. Delicate little pink flowers. Smells nice. Not very bushy/full.

I have two climbers in my small growing area in the patio - Clair Matin is growing up a small gate I found in the trash couple of years ago and Buff Beauty growing up an arbor. So far, both are very mannerly. You might consider clematis too.

Susie, thanks for the suggestions. Love the Joseph's Coat rose. Someone near us has them all along their front fence facing south, it's almost always a blaze of color. I've seriously considered an English climber, that's a good idea too. Cecil Bruner is nice but we already have enough pink (Bewitched, Blush Noisette, Salvias, geraniums...) that I need a little break from it. :-)

Have you looked at any of the mini rose climbers? Some stay reasonably small while others can get very large.

The most recent issue of Fine Horticulture had an article about climbers and had lists of good climbers for cold winters and warm winters.

Thank you for the additional suggestions. I hope to have some time next week (this week? forget it!!!) to remove the ZD rose to make room for the new one.
