RA, how did Shorty's do for you this year? Have you tried to take cuttings of it this year?

KHT, I had 27 yearlings and 12 2year old plants to find room for this year so Shorty's P&C went to Brampton this year to another ABADS member's garden. I just had a note from him saying he had a flush with 95 blooms on it this year.

I kept only 3 named Brugs here this year and 2 un-named (from 4 years ago).

KHT, Shorty is doing really well. It is just now starting its 4th major flush. Still short, still strong in perfume, still one of my favourites. I took cuttings last year, and they are blooming as well right now.

I should have mentioned that Ruth Ann has an amazing collection, and her offer is very generous. I acquired many of mine from her over the years.

On behalf of everyone here, Ruth Ann, a big thanks for your generosity ( at this time and always) and your sage advise.

RA, glad you found it a good home and so glad to hear it's flushing big time up north. Cutting back is a good thing and testing is even better, whom needs the named ones when you can test seeds!! We moved that direction several years ago and have gone to a select few. RA thank you for the update and keeping me post on Shorty's. I agree RA is the best Canada has for information and being so generious!

jroot, thank you for the update!! 4 flushes up north, wow!! I thought I was doing well with 4 and a 5th during the winter months. We are just seeing our second after cutting the big mother plant in to. We are still having trouble with cuttings and were told to do tip cuttings in the heat bed. What's your secret?? This one is so amazing to grow and not like the others? I will add we are seeing a sport which is not variegated and will be removing it in hopes it will be like it's Mom, with the none stop flushes.

Ruth Ann! I am in Connecticut but I may come up! Can you give me an idea where you are? Would be great fun.

Burlington is located in Southern Ontario about 15 miles East of Hamilton and 45 miles West of Toronto.
I have only a very small personal garden here but I do like to share as others doing that with myself got me into Brugs the way I am now.

Americans had better check their most recent importing restrictions, oxmyx I forgot to mention this in my above posting. You may not be allowed to take cuttings across your border.

Ruth Ann, I thought of that, but whos to know?
actually there is a good chance that cuttings alone will be ok, but I would check....
Anyway, Canada is a nice place to visit, and a nice ride if I plan a vacation, however, Work may get in the way, at this point. :)

Oxmyx yes come up to visit. Ruth Anns open house is just the perfect opportunity for a drive in the most beautiful time of the year.

Oxmyx if you do go up you should stop by the botanical garden in Hamilton. It's beautiful and this time of year is great for snatching seeds. lol I've got a number of plants in my garden from seeds collected there : )

Ruth Ann I love the RBG and make my DH stop by whenever we are near Hamilton. I'm not a big rose lover but the rose garden at RBG is just beautiful. We have a botanical garden (Brookside Nature Center) near my house that's similar, probably bigger but not quite as formal that I enjoy and much of my garden has been started from seeds and cuttings from it. I'm careful not to damage any of the plants and they dispose of most of the seeds anyway because of cross pollination. They do the majority of their plant propagation in the conservatory.

OMG!!! I should be so lucky to attend!!!! It is 94* today .. lovin that.. 60? tonight..lovin that as well.. I would love to be there and visit your garden.. and of course have the privalige of taking home a cutting or two... Have a wonderful time everyone.. Well I wished I could of taken photos...the blooms were gorgous,Golden Lady just loaded with blooms (be still my heart) and oh the height of the brugs, incredible! At one point Ruth Ann handed me the loopers and told me to go for it. But unlike the kid in a candy store, I contained my clipping to French Canadian, Exotica and several of Ruth Ann's seedlings. It was nice to meet up with everyone.

We had a beautiful day for the cutting open house here today, I met new folks from here in GW too.
Isn't it great the way the internet pulls us together from miles around and we can sit and chat about a single genus of plant for hours.
Sorry but I was too busy to take pictures. One guest did manage to get a couple and if he send them to me I will ask if I may post them here.

The cool weather seems to bring on the bloom for many of the Brugmansia but at any time, there could be frost and that is for the most part the end of bloom
I hope that more pictures are posted, as the plants are something to be seen.

Ruth Ann and Don seemed quite willing to give us time and knowledge , while sitting out on the patio this lovely fall afternoon

i've been reading all your great comments on brugs, i'm growing a few myself here in saskatchewan, all of mine were just loaded with blooms but then we got this cold snap and i had to put them in our heated garage. i noticed a couple of them are really blooming out , and this is a first time for me ever seeing a brugmansia bloom . i was wondering if the ones that will open will develope a seed pod ? i was wondering if anyone would have any pink or other colored brug seeds to share, i believe my brgs will b white. i'm so excited that i can hardly believe that i planted mine from seeds that i got from a brug forum she had seeds to share. sorry for all the questions but i'm new at this. elma

Elma, that's terrific that you grew them from seed and actually have them flowering, especially in Sask, well done.

If you watch in Canadian Tire in the spring, you may see they have small Brug cuttings then, at least they do here in Ontario.
I no longer mail out cuttings but I could mail you more seeds and you could see what you get, I just had this one

flower from seeds from the same package and although it is an unknown x unknown, I love the shape and dark green of the leaves and the fragrance on it is terrific enough I will likely keep it for a few years just for that.

Hi everyone, I am in Oshawa Ontario and growing Brugs for the first time this year. I have 2 which are about 3to 4 ft. tall in pots on my deck. One has cream and green foliage with yellow flowers and the other has green foliage with pink flowers. I need to know what to do with them over the winter as it is starting to get cold now. I really want to keep these beautiful plants alive. thanks for any help
