What is your weekend project? (March 3-4)

I thought it might be fun to see who is doing what over the course of the spring and it would help people here to sort of get to know each other.

I am going to finish adding pony manure compost to my border beds for starters. I also want to get my seed boxes started. Inside I am recovering my dining room chairs (a garden bistro set that I brought in to make my insides more "gardeny") so that will probably take the rest of my time. If I happen to have a bit of free time I want to work on a fairy house for the butterfly garden.

We had 1.5 tons of flagstone delivered and tomorrow we'll be laying the paths through the shrub garden that we started in October.

Yesterday, I made my first shrub haul, but not much is available yet with the growers. Alot of things are still small and half rooted. I brought back some clump bamboo (Bambusa glaucescens 'Fernleaf') for a quick spot of green and screen. Also, got Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Cream Ball' and Buddleia davidii Adonis BlueÂ 'Adokeep' CPAF. If the soil isn't too wet, we'll plant.

Today, we weeded and pulled and placed native rocks gathered from our property.

Balcony gardener here, so the projects are small, but...
The main plan this weekend is to get more of the poncirus sprouts planted up into drinking cups (those in the smaller punch cups as well as those in still in the plastic bag in which they germinated... oops!). I'd like to get them outside as soon as possible; they've been underfoot since October.
Project two is to obsess over whether it's going to get down to freezing and whether I should leave the basil and marjoram out.
I may think about repotting the marjoram.
The final possibility is going out to search for a calamondin, but as we are heading into the season of March Madness, that might have to wait. =)

I planned on getting my daughter's pillow shams done but my girls are out of town for the weekend so I had to entertain my son last night. We started a 1000 piece puzzle and finished it up this morning. We really have no one around here for him to play with and he gets very lonely. Today I will get to sew some. I'm using the extra squares I got while making the Pineapple Blossom to make the shams, not sure if I like it or not. If I can find the left over batiks from the last birthday block I may make a lotto block for March. We had to move all my sewing stuff last weekend because we had church here and now I can't find a thing! Vicky

Good Morning: Just checking in. ((((((((((MADDIE)))))))))). DeeMarie says you need these. I hope they help!!! BJ, Ditto on the slowing down. Your body is telling you to. Can't you enjoy life just a little more slowly for right now? Be good. Now about that movie. I would love to see it, just purely out of curiousity, but I know that once those visions are in my head I will never get over it. I still have visions about Jaws I everytime I am in the ocean! I think it is very interesting to hear all the different comments about the movie though. Other than the gore, how was the content? Dee, congratulations on the ####'s!!! You have inspired me to pull out my WW material. I am a life time member from way back, and have gone back several times since then but could never just get back into it. However, after hearing your stories and others I am inspired. I even went on eBay yesterday and bought the points calculator. I really need to do something about my health and the weight is the biggest factor. My cholesterol is high, I just had to go back for another reading on my mamogram (which turned out to be ok) but it was enough to totally freak me out. So thanks for inspiring me. I hope I can do as well as you! Blondie! Speaking of hair color, I just had mine done yesterday and I went a little darker than normal. I have always been a brunette, then this past summer I went a little blonder, then a little more blonder, etc. When I was leaving for my appt. yesterday DH asked if I would ever have my real color back because he missed it. I don't know if that was sweet or not, but I went a little darker. Next appt. I will go a little more darker and have some highlights put in. Raeanne, I would love to see your painting. I have such an appreciation for people that can paint anything after visiting the Museum of Fine Arts. The best I can do is paint a wall! As far as the voting goes, I did vote for Foxwoods/Mohegan, but I will go with the majority. If I can swing it, I will be there!!! NH Suzanne, congratulations on going over your goal! What a great feeling that must be. SusieQ, positive thoughts are being sent to your friend. I hope things turn out ok. Patti and Dave, thinking of you both and I hope things are going well. 2014 was an exceptionally wet year for central Louisiana and with all the rain we are getting in January... everything around here is flooded. I have not put out my rain gauge here at the new house yet, but I would guess we have gotten at least 4 + inches in the last 24 hours and this was after the ground was already saturated ........ am so ready for some dry weather! My sewing room closet is being renovated and I am hoping that by mid-January close to my b-day that I will have shelves installed in it and that it will be fully painted so there is no musty smell in it ... am eager to organize and put away my quilting, crocheting and hobby stuff. I am glad to have a bigger sewing room at our new home, but right now it and the the laundry room are a mass of boxes, most of it my stuff that will eventually get organized in my sewing room. I have some Granny blocks kitted up from last fall, so I may hand-piece some of them this week. In my sewing room my sewing/computer desk is against 2 large windows so I need to get mini-blinds put on them before I do sewing / quilting projects at my desk so sunlight does not fade my fabrics. I got my kitchen fully unpacked, washed and organized in cabinets with shelf liners. I need to organized and put away stuff in the living room. My son's toys are all in boxes in his room which I need to go through them piece by piece and sort and purge out old toys he has outgrown like monster trucks and dinosaurs. So right now he is enjoying all his Christmas toys to play with and Legos have taken over the kitchen table. Hope everyone is enjoying 2015 so far. Best to you and yours, Sandra

I picked up my Janome after its check-up on the way home from the airport yesterday. I had used the two weeks we were gone for its tune-up. My second machine is in Hawaii, and I couldn't think of being machine-less for two weeks if I could help it. I've got blocks for three quilts cut and packaged to take to Hawaii this winter. I'd like to find at least one more pattern to work on there. When I was in France, the friend we stayed with was so interested in my quilting photos and seemed to appreciate them so much. I'd like to make her a lap quilt as a Thank You. Maybe I'll spend some time this weekend searching for a pattern. I'd also like to make some changing pads for my nephew and his wife. They are the ones for whom I just made the modern, grey quilt. I have some grey fabric left over, so I thought I could made a coordinating pad or two for them. They have a one bedroom apartment, so I know that the baby will be changed on their bed.

...do some weeding, plant out some more lettuces and arugala, watch the ground for a while to see if peas are going to show yet (lol), pot up some sedums, do some more weeding, plant some ferns, might move a rose, wander around the yard and see what's starting to sprout, cut back some of the dead stuff, do some more weeding...

watch my Dh plant a post for me so I can order a birdhouse for it... hit an old bookstore for some new used books... wish I was able to do the millions of things I want to do. soon, though.

Sounds like rootdiggernc and I have the same plans - WEEDING - lol. I will be doing all she stated but in the morning will add listening to Ann Clapp and the Raleigh garden program while wintersowing my annuals. I will also be checking all my wintersown babies that are already outside and maybe get the poppies and calendula in the ground. Whatever else I do it will be garden related. I tend to get outside and wander from job to job with no real plan....

Hubby and I are heading out to buy cement and some fillers to make some big trough style planters. I want to put them under my freestanding arch trellis. I live in rented house so I am mainly gardening in containers this year. since we owned our own places for years I have always had a garden and I just can't give that up!
Anyhow we're going to make a wood 'mold' and pour the mix into it and I'm going to use my new troughs to plant flowering vines that will climb my trellis and be portable so that when we finally buy our own house I can take it all with and never have to dig into the landlord's lovely red clay. (awww)

I got directions and recipes from a really cool library book-- "Creative Concrete Ornaments for the Garden" by Sherri W. Hunter
Check it out (after I return it) it has directions for making pots, planters, birdbaths and sculptures. cool book! mary

Finished planting potatoes, trying straw method this year. Threw grass seed and watched my straw blow away. Built new cucumber fences to replace my others that were falling apart. Will prune weeping cherry trees tomorrow, if I can't get them looking better this year it will be chain saw next year. Trying to find someone with a thatcher I can rent for the front yard seeding prep. Hoping for a good dry spell in order to till the veg garden.

My husband loves to go to work on Monday so he doesn't have to do yard work. lol We've gotten a late start so we are just finshing are trimming, pruning and cut backs. I cringe at the weeds, but one thing's for sure, they'll be there tomorrow.

Where's the best place to buy a half moom edger? Mail order shipping costs are too high. So I need to get one locally without spending $40 -$50.

Weeding and cutting down all the dead stuff I haven't gotten to yet. DH is making trellises for the lovely arbor he built for me last year; the honeysuckle I planted in the fall already wants to climb!
