When to plant seeds?

I've had a very successful first BF garden this year. But I did it the expensive way, I bought the plants, didn't plant any seeds, or use cuttings from plants. I'm not the best gardener, and don't know all that technical stuff. I did obtain some seeds, and wondered when do I plant them? I have aristolochia seeds, and trumpet vine seeds. Do I plant them in the spring after any threat of frost, like regular plants? And how/where do I store them? I have them in the fridge right now.

Not all seeds should be stored in the refrigerator...

Thanks for the welcome and the information! I'm sure I will be back to visit and get advice again. I will try to get my seeds planted near my kitchen window so they will have light and indoor heat. I have very little space for indoor plants, but I will give them a try. If they sprout, I will post to let you know. (I'm glad I asked about his now. Before the response, I was thinking I would not plant them until late Spring or Summer.) Jeanne

Andy, I live in the state of Florida and I don't line out any of mine during the hot months . I can wait till Oct or Nov to do that. But as for sowing seeds, I can do that year round since the area I am in rarely gets below 32 degrees Fahrenheit. Now that you know where I am( halfway between Tampa and Orlando on the Interstate 4 route) If your fall temps do not get very hot then by all means line out and go for it!

I agree...the garage sale hosta buyer only is after the looks of the plant and doesn't care less about the name. In spring when I have my perennial sale it seems that everyone wants hostas with a variation in color to them (white somewhere on the leaves), yet a few weeks ago I was invited to partake in a Garden Bazaar and all the solid green colored hostas I brought were sold instead. Interesting... I have seedlings also that turned out to be a solid green. But, some of them have round leaves while others have pointed tips on their leaves. Some have a thicker leaf than others. I plan on growing them out and then, once mature divide to sell, as it would be good to be able to tell the buyer what the mature size of the seedling will be. Larkspur seeds need stratification to germinate. I'm thinking coneflowers do, as well. Everything I've read about dianthus say they don't, but I'm going to hedge my bets with mine this year by stratifying them. Keeping them company in the refrigerator (starting tomorrow) will be numerous varieties of flowering kale & cabbage (these should have been done a couple months ago), 3 varieties of echinacea, several varieties each of Malva, hollyhocks, scabiosa, violas and pansies, as well as some pinks, delphinium, larkspur, blackberry lily, liatris, agastache, penstemon and bluebonnets.

I'm wondering the same thing! I do remember reading somewhere on this forum that aristolochia seeds do best when planted soon after harvested. How soon, I'm not sure.

I also read on this forum that someone had better luck direct sowing the aristolochia seeds in the ground instead of trying to grow them in a pot. I too have aristolochia (fimbriata) seeds and haven't decided what to do with them yet. If anyone has any experience growing this from seed in zone 8, could you please share your experiences?
