Honestly, it's your Lithops that I like the most. They're such cool plants, and WOW! Those flowers!

Cephalotus looks awsome is it that complicated to grow? Or is it fairly easy?

Hey Cody! Cephalotus is a little tricky. It is basically the same as Heliamphora. I keep it with my Heliamphora Ionantha, so it's pretty easy. Keep moist (but not sitting in water), KEEP COOL, and give it good lighting. In many ways, like a highland nep. If you can keep highlanders or Heliamphora; you will be fine with Cephalotus.

Expensive little plants though. Mine was only an inch across when I bought it off of Ebay for $30. It's about double that size now. It's an awesome little plant. Once it gets a little bigger, I will be breeding some offspring! It is supposedly the "Hummers Giant".

the plants have pleanty of new growth and are seemingly doing fine... and as i got the plants i finaly got a Electirc timer so i dont have to wrap my shedual around the plants! But I knew they didnt have enugh light so i got another Light and i can tell its getting more light cause in the terrium (its sitting in a tray on soil with my D. Adalae and its finaly getting more Pigment in the Hairs and 6 new runner's!!! 6 and i didnt realize the other 3 untill just today! The Pings are getting lots of new growth, and the nep lost two of the pitchers but has three and a leaf that had started to form a pitcher decieded it didnt want to but its growing and loking healthy ill post a pic's some time soon!

Interesting, thanx for letting us know, I only have highland Neps but the thing is Ive chosen the ones that adapt very easily and are tough as nails, these include Ventricosa, Ventrata, Judith Finn and Sanguinea.
Would the Australian pitchers adapt to lower humidity levels like the Highland Neps or are they more sensitive to such things.
Indoors I have roughly 40% humidity for my Neps and so far they are very happy.

Any info would be great

Hi Sheldon,
At $30 for a 1 inch plant; I haven't experimented much! ;) Cephalotus is pretty interesting in regards to humidty. I've seen 75% humidity listed as optimal and 50% listed as a minimum. When humidity drops to levels that the Cephalotus does not like, it closes the lids on it's pitchers (persumably to slow down digestive fluid evaporation or something like that). In either case, this would seem to suggest a rather strong aversion to low humidity levels. Under this scenario, you could see how growth would be slowed rather dramtically; and that's really a best case result of low humidity. I'm not sure if the real downside is worse or not.

mmmm, Id be interested to find out more on this plant, I know that my first Ventricosa was from www.petflytrap.com, it must have been used to higher levels of humidity because I did not harden it off and the result was all pitchers closed and growth stopped for roughly 2 months.
Once the plant adapted however the pitchers opened and growth once again took place.
The weekly foliar feed of Epiphytes Delight and monthly foliar feed of SuperThrive is making the Highland Neps sprout pitchers and leaves at a rapid rate as well, if I get a feeling from growers that this plant could adapt I will give it a try sometime and use the same methods on it as on my Neps.
Will of course keep everyone posted if or when I try this.

"Humidity & Temperature: Cephalotus produces larger pitchers when grown in conditions of high humidity but also grows well with lower humidity. A temperature range between 5°C to 35°C is reasonable with the best growth occurring at temperatures between 20°C and 30°C. Lids close on hot dry days as it is the plants natural mechanism to counter moisture loss under conditions of low humidity. It is not something to be concerned about provided the soil is kept moist. Moving plants to an area of higher humidity will cause the lids to open again."

They recon that the plant does fine under both higher and lower humidity and that it is the hot dry days that cause traps to close.

mmmmm hopefully I wont hit any brick walls that will stop me from trying one.
