Does anyone have any information about P. Agnata P. ehlersiae P. moctezumae P. Rotundifolia and the other hybrids on cobra plants or the mexican butterworts on california carnivores? Cobra plants says that Agnata has a dormancy period. It doesn't say anything else about the other plants. I thought that the mexican butterworts just have a drier winter dormancy when they turn into succulents but i didn't know that they had a full winter dormancy? And what about the dormancy for the other plants that i have currently that i am thinking bout storing in my fridge for dormancy?

The refrigerator can work as a means of providing simulated dormancy for your plants, however; if your region provides winter temperatures of about 30-40 degrees you can leave them outside or in an unheated garage or patio area where they can get light to tell them what time of year it is. If you just have to simulate dormancy in the fridge, you will have to wait until the plants have started adapting to winter dormancy with short photoperiods and lower temperatures. Once the short photoperiod tells them winter is coming, then you can get them in the fridge. Same with coming out of the fridge. Bring them out at the end of February to beginning of March and place them in their normal spot where they can get sun and water them normally again. The lengthening photoperiod in the beginning of spring will tell the plants to wake up and start growing again. Watering during winter should be done, but just keep the soil barely moist with only half as much water in the tray as normal. Let the tray go dry between waterings and just make sure the soil never dries out completely.

You can also use an ice chest to simulate dormancy, but that takes even more work to keep frozen bottles of water around the plants and a 12 hour cycle of opening and closing the chest to air it out. Always be vigilant for mold during winter.

I happen to have all of which you mentioned. What I did this past winter is keep them at window sills in an unheated stairway, where the temps dipped into the 40's. Most of the plants developed the short, stubby winter leaves and when spring arrived they gradually went into growth mode again. When it warmed up enough I opened the windows, so that only a screen was between them and full sun. That which was green became pink and those that has a pink tinge became purple.

What is this that I've heard about letting them dry out for dormancy? Supposedly that is all that is really needed except maybe for some reduced light? I need to know this stuff too for this winter.

No,
don't let them dry out completly.
Just a little bit less than usual.
And for the light,slowly reduce it, not rapidly,

I'm not really into the Mexican pings, but agnata, moranensis, and esseriana are all ridiculously easy to grow. These plants, as well as most Mexican butterworts, go through a period where their leaves become much smaller and no longer catch bugs. When this happens you need to let the soil dry out a bit or your plants will probably die. Thats likely what Cobra plants (Sarracenia Northwest?) was referring to when they mention dormancy for agnata. As for your refrigerator idea, it should work fine. Keep the soil only just damp and spray with a fungicide once a month or at the slightest sign of mold.

When i was growing VFT I reversed the cycle so they were in the fridge during summer and then grew them out during winter. You can't fight florida summers lol The tough part is there is no cool down period here so with this method it's either "summer" or "winter" It works but a lot of work . gary
