I've seen these kits & my nephew bought one. Question is - did you follow the simple instructions that came with the kit? One important rule is that it needs stratification when planting them in the growing media. Stratification is giving them a cold treatment to simulate their environment. usually done by keeping them in the refrigerator for 4 to 6 weeks. That simulates winter period & once you put it in a warm sunny place, that simulates the coming spring, stimulating the seeds to sprout. I have a feeling you didn't read the instructions since one of the rules clearly states to water it with distilled or rain water, but clearly states no tap water. That was the first mistake you did.

A few are Seedrack, Thompson-morgan, ortongardens. You will need fresh seed for best germination. Check GardenWatchDog for ratings of any company before ordering. Rb

CP's arent exterminators. They arent Efficient at catching bugs, if anything get a Sundew. Capesundew, Or D. adalea, wich ever you like more. Either way, they wont solve youre problem like Gnatole (i think thats the thing) Ask some questions on how to grow CP's if you are that interested. and i know how you feel i have the same problem but basicaly you would need 10 Bladder worts in the soil youre plants are in (wouldnt survive) A few pings several sundews in the general facility of the plants. Even then they will take over the soil of the Plants themselfs. Sundews like moist soil, highly acidic, wich is sphagnum peat, and lots of light. Dont need high humidity. Any ways CP's grow really slowly from seeds. taakes at least a couple of years to 5 years for them to mature to full flowering size (wich is usualy how big they will get. Cheers.

You might try on the Carnivorous Plant Forum under "Exchanges". FYI - it takes a few years for seeds of VFT's to develop into into a plant the size that kids will appreciate. For about the first year, the traps are only around or less than 1/8th of an inch! I would suggest starting with mature plants. One thing you CAN do is take leaf cuttings. For those interested in these plants, I would suggest getting from the library a copy of the book, The Savage Garden, by Peter D' Amato. It's excellent & is considered the bible of Carnivorous plants. I have some VFT's & Sundews for trade. Please email me off this list.
