OT Canna Stuttgart Growing

Since I am getting so many questions of how I grow my Canna Stuttgart I am putting it under a topic of its own.

I grow all my Cannas in Pots. I am too old to dig and store every year. This canna also seems to not like its roots disturb for storage I lift it from the pot with any soil that does not come off and put it in a plastic grocery bag and store it in my laundry room. The temps are 55-60 all winter. By March it starts growing out of the bag.

So this is how I grow Stuttgart

Large pot without drainage hole to make a bog condition.

Fill the pot half with soil place the bulb cover with just enough soil to cover the bulb.

Keep soil damp until you see leaves. When the leaves are 4" high start with more water.

If it does not rain the plant sucks up the water in 2 days.

I give it 1/2 strength fert with each watering or use 3 month fert tablets

Once a month I mix 1 gallon of water and one tablespoon of epsom salt and water.

This Canna needs semi-shade. It loves the morning sun afternoon shade.

If I was not clear, ask away. I love this canna and it can be beautiful if grown to its liking.
