What are the Requirements for Cobra lilles? are they hard to care for? cause im gettin about 20 seeds free with my order? Any body with n e back ground to them?
I just started growing them this season, but not from seeds. I currently have 2 that are doing well (with the exception that weevils love to eat the new growth, it sucks man.) anyway, roots must be kept cool. if it gets too hot then they can die. heres a link you may want to read, it would explain it better than me. (coutesy of the guys at cobraplant.com)
Mine seems to be doing well. I've had it for about 5 years now.
{{gwi:556667}} Mine is in a pot and the pot in a deep saucer. It receives about 3 hours of direct afternoon sun and is in otherwise bright shade. Never let it dry out. For the winter it comes inside and remains by a window in an unheated room [temps generally in the 50's]
Wow it looks excellent, mabey Ill try some oneday, so far I really really love the S. Flava plants, they just seem to grow and not care as much as the Judith Hindle and S. Rubra I have.
Funnily enough, my Cobra Nest Hyrib looks "fine" but does not seem to be growing really. I thought it was such a hardy and fast growing plant, I am quite suprised.
I moved the big pot today more toward some trees so it should offer some shade when it gets real hot here.
I also have a deep saucer, its about half the height of my pot, and I always flood the pot and let it drain into the saucer.
Is this a good practise?, or is it better to fill the saucer?
I've heard from many people that they are a bit difficult to grow due to root temperature requirements. However, Paul doesn't seem to be having any problems!
then i should do fine, (maybe) lol, cause im getting twenty seeds with my order, i thought that plant looks cool, im not sure if its a hybred or not i didnt realy ask all ik no is when i orderd i got a free pack of seeds, cant complain, 20 free seeds at least 5 plants if i can get them to grow!
I think one of em insulated pots like I got would then be a grat benefit. When my cobra nest was in a typical plastic pot I could feel on a hot day that the soil really heated up. But the insulated pot always remained cool throughout.
Where is a good place to get a Insulated pot?, I checked on Wrightpat airforce base and there werent any, would walmart or Target or sams have summin like that, Lowes?
Well I found mine at Costco, the brand I got that is an awesome pot (10 year warrenty) is made by a USA company called "Pottery Collaborative", their email address is: "info@potterycollaborative.com" and their website is: "www.potterycollaborative.com"
An insulated pot could possibly backfire, sheldon, if it should happen to keep the soil too warm. But if as you say it seems to be keeping the soil cool then I'd expect you should be alright.
I have mine in a terra cotta pot with the following theory in mind [now, of course, whether it is actually correct ....] :
An unglazed/painted terra cotta is porous. Water can and will -- to some extent -- wick through the material. I have noticed that when in a saucer of water, the dark/wet damp line on the pot's exterior is always at least a little above the waterline -- seems like at least a couple cm most of the time. Water evaporating from the outer surface of the pot will provide some cooling, even as it does for us when sweat evaporates off of our skin.
Having said that, I will also add that I do water with cool to cold water and on exceptionally miserable days have even put some icecubes on the media to melt. I try not to let the reservoir ever run dry. [Though I must admit, I don't always succeed on that account.] As far as water level goes I do let it flucuate
Now perhaps if I provided more optimal care I would get some truly tall pitchers like they get in their native habitat. However, being an apt dweller with limited space, I don't mind that it has stayed much smaller/manageable.
ak, never done seeds so I really can't say much there.
