Do you know if they have bigger ones? I used to be able to get the pop up hamper with zipper lids at Lowes. Loved them but over time and cleaning, they wore out. Now can only find ones without the lid and they aren't nearly as good.

I thought I had a winner (from The Container Store), but after my darling cat knocked it over when 2 monarchs eclosed, I figured I'd need something that closes, LOL. Then I decided to reuse for my BST's getting ready to pupate, but she found the caterpillars very interesting and knocked it over. Luckily I was home at the time or the caterpillars would be scattered over my floor (blech). I initially ordered 3, but decided to have a coworker order another 3 for me, since I'm giving 3 away already.

I just went to kids.woot.com and it already says "sold out!" - but for the record my son did get that painted lady deal for his birthday last year and we still use the habitat quite a bit, though it is small. I use it a lot for newly emerged BFs while they dry.
The kids.woot.com page is worth visiting though for the story about "Brownie and Whiskers" and the "farm."

I just ordered two from Wal Mart.com Had looked at the store but never had one with lid that you could see through. They were always nylon and not good air flow.

These look just like the ones I got from Lowes and they work perfectly. Yes, they are large enough to put plants in. The only drawback I found was that if you put containers with water in them on the bottom that when I would take it out to release the butterflies, the cups would tip over. I remedied it by buying one of those plastic things that you put plants on to catch the water. A pizza pan would also work. Just make sure it is big enough to fit the bottom snugly or small enough that butterflies can't get caught between the pan and the sides of the hamper. I used mine for several years and still have one that is usable although it has small holes in it. Luckily I didn't have any wandering cats that I know of. They do make their chrsyalis on the inside of the lid but it has never been a problem. They clean up easily but make sure you rinse really well if you use bleach. I think that is why my one dry rotted.

Insectlore does sell a larger pop-up. It's called the 'Pavilion' and is just a bit more.

I used a plastic plate on the bottom of mine to provide stability. I covered it with a paper towel and taped the edges down before putting it into the pop-up.

For washing the meconium off of the netting, use an organic dishwashing liquid as it will easily remove the stain without damaging the netting or the colored fabric bottom. Health food stores carry a variety of the coconut oil based- stuff and the new Clorox Greenworks stuff works great, too. :)

OH, and the same stuff is an excellent overall stain remover for your clothing: takes out ink, blood, marker, ...

TDogMom, glad to hear that about greenworx, just bought some for bike grease cleaning and could use a good blood stain remover thanks to the wild lime! (Although still seems strange to see the word "clorox" in an enviro-friendly product!)
