What plants are you going to have for spring swaps?

I know it is early yet, but I thought it might be fun to see what everyone was planning on having available for spring swaps and what they might be looking for...just to tide us all over and get us in the right frame of mind.

Butterfly bushes (yellow, white, DARK purple and light purple)

Basic daylilies (deep yellow, orange, orange/red doubles and a few others)

Salvias (perrenial types)

Assorted Tea Herbs (catmint, chamomile, peppermint, spearmint, lemongrass)

Black Eyed Susans

and maybe some annuals if I get around to seed starting

I will be looking for crepe myrtles, dogwoods, forsythias and other shrubs/trees and new varieties of daylilies.

I'm not being critical, just practical, but maybe this would be better on the exchanges page. Otherwise, we'll all be typing it twice when we start the swap thread. Which will probably happen soon anyhow, if past experience is anything to go by. LOL. We're a bunch of greedy gusses. And you're so right- it does help in the long dark days of winter.

I think we are as much greedy gusses as we are giving gusses. Give some, get some. I love the swaps - I can share my excess and get something someone else has in excess that I don't. Some of the plants I got at the first swaps I went to are now excess in my garden!

You know, after swapping and swapping we probably have all the same identical gardens!! LOL

I know I am posting this in January, but I wanted everybody to get it written down and start thinking about it. I have included a link to my blog that tells you how to have your own Plant Swap. PLANT SWAP Come swap all those extra plants you have April 9th 2011, 10am setup Park Circle, by the Gazebo More Information: 200-5818 Cactusmusic@netzero.com The Specifics 10am set-up and browse....11am swap...immediately afterwards...LUNCH! Bring ALL your extra plants, if it grows, it will go! Including Houseplants! Also any garden related items, Hoses, Garden Art, Containers, Etc. We are having it at Park Circle in North Charleston, by the Gazebo. There are picnic tables, bathrooms and LOTS of room for kids to play and even more room for plants, parking and food. Pretty much everybody in Charleston is familiar with Park Circle....there are numerous ways to get to it, depending on which way you are coming. If you want or need directions, e-mail me, I will get it and respond ASAP. The way we swap will be the basic Free For All. I will say go, everybody will grab ONE (1) plant and take it to their hiding area. After everybody has a plant, we repeat the process. Nice and Simple! We will have plates and napkins and such, Please bring your own drinks and a covered dish for as many as you can. We like to do a Pot Luck style picnic and encourage everybody to stick around and participate. The socializing afterwards is as much fun as the swap itself, please try to give yourself enough time to stay and enjoy yourself! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. Thanks everyone for coming!! Great crowd and good food. Sorry everyone had to endure my sniffly allergy melt down - I'd been fine all season but wouldn't you know the day of the swap I am practically bed ridden. It's a good thing no one showed up with privet or I would have shown you what a crazy man on hay fever drugs looks like (privet is my number one allergen). I just wish I could stop sneezing long enough to really embarrass Livian on her birthday. I did my usual reverse of binge and purge. Came to swap planning on giving it all away and taking NOTHING back home only to carry home MORE than I brought. I had planned on saying a few words about Miguel and how his clematis knowledge will be missed on these forums but I lost track of time during the chaos that is our swap. In the future I think I will plan on leading a caravan over to Plant Delights after the swap, since I used to work there, know the back road way to get there easily and know that they could use the business. I also think I should post my cell phone number so that last minute emergencies can be better communicated. Glad everyone came and swapped. Glad that once again the quality of plants surpassed expectations. Glad little Connor was smart enough to wander over to the playground nearby. I can't wait til the next one.

We can do special trades, but we don't yet have a huge following like the Raleigh swap, so you may not get much response for special trades nor know what types of plants to expect..... I remember a lot of perennials last time. I advertise in other places as well, so if there's not a lot of response here, it doesn't mean anything. :) I hope you can join us!

I should have the following, mostly in small quantities: Agastache 'Blue Delight' seedlings in 4-packs. Resembles 'Blue Fortune' Aquilegia (columbine), 2d year plants, blue flowers, 3.5" pots Amsonia hubrictii (Arkansas bluestar), 2d year seedlings (only 2 of these) Aster tataricus (Tatarian aster), divisions, 4" or quart pots. Belamcanda chinensis (Blackberry Lily), 3.5" pots Galanthus nivalis (snowdrops), at least 50 mixed-sized bulbs per trade, more than half of blooming size Geranium, seedlings of 'Claridge Druce' probably, 3.5" pots Geranium 'Biokovo,' small divisions Helleborus x hybridus (lenten rose), several dozen 1st year seedlings in 4- and 6-packs and a few 2d year seedlings in 3.5" pots. Parent plants are white, rose, & purple. Nandina domestica, 2d year seedlings, about 6" tall. Unnamed parent plants have reached about 4 feet. Nepeta (catmint). Unknown variety, compact & low-growing, purple flowers. 4" pots. Pulmonaria (lungwort), 3.5" pots. I know I'm going to be bring some green hawthorns, maybe parsley leaf hawthorns too if they germinate. Otherwise I'm not sure what else I will bring yet. Mostly I wait and hear what other people want and if I have that I'll divide it.

Someone typically starts a thread in the Exchanges Section a couple months before the swap. Usually there ends up being 2 threads, actually, each with a limit of 150 replies, most of it special trades between individuals. The special trades eliminates rushing and grabbing for plants and knocking each other down, lol.

or 3 or 4... LOL. yeah- i should have said, everyone is super generous. i think it's part of the nature of most gardeners. nan- you may be right- we probably all have some similar stuff, but there's so much variety and varied interests, i'm sure everyone's is uniquely theirs.

I was thinking of not doing special trades this time - YEAH RIGHT

I still owe rooted fuchsia cuttings and some LoveChild I think. My cuttings were pitiful last swap, because of the drought. My goal is to bring bigger plants this spring.
