Birthday present from my garden

Well today they finally opened, the most beautiful flower I have ever seen! My P. Incense. Thanks Karyn and some others for recommending this Var.

what a beauty - sorry for my ignorance, but is this a Brug variety? not that it matters, just wondering.

it may be the most incredible bloom I have seen, congrats!

I love P. incense and was shocked at how hardy it is here. It's still coming up all over the place, even in my lawn! I wish that all my passies were this hardy. Now you're going to get bit by the passiflora bug. lol

Well, I had to install the camera software back on my computer since I didn't do after changing the hard drive but I got er done. Here are the cuteys. Hey he's not getting older, he's getting better. That's what everyone keeps telling me on my birthdays. Happy Birthday Barry! By the way the only things that I can see that I'm better at is: 1.Misplacing my car keys. 2.Forgetting which store I was going to, or was I going home? 2.Forgetting the grocery list, or was it dry cleaning? 2.Going up and down each isle 3 or 4 times looking for something that's not even on that isle. 2.Losing the car in the parking lot at the store after I find my keys to get there. 2.Leaving stuff in the car, with the door open when I get home to take the groceries out. 2. Forgetting I left the car door open and let the dogs out to P.-boy that's a rude awakening, but they eat pretty good. 2. forget that this was a birthday wish to someone, thank goodness his name is in the Subject of Posting Box so I know it's BARRY. Like I was saying Happy Birthday Barry, your not getting older just better. Just don't forget where you put Pam. I just know this will be a great birthday for you. I'm sorry that you didn't get to work because of the weather. I'd like to have some of the rain ya'll are getting. It is dry as powdered sugar here and everything is burning up. I'm in awe of those of you who are organized. What a grand tool box, Caroline! We are a pair of packrats, incorrigible. The Scrap Man comes by and reminds us every now and then that we're supposed to be throwing away and we keep moving things around. The space fills up again with objects that need lengthy goodbyes. We dragged the old Ford Truck from under the equipment shed for the Scrap Man to take away, and DH rearranged all his toys. At lunch, he described to me a battery operated nail driver that is on sale somewhere and then admitted that he has an air impact nail driver that has never been out of the box. The Rain Lilies sound neat! They sound like determined little guys. Its cool that you were able to recognize and preserve a part of your house's history. I have found all kinds of weird things here. There are hurricane lilies both white and red that pop up all over the front yard. I tried moving a few of the red ones into the flower bed then the chickens discovered they were yummy to eat so I am not sure if they will come back up lol. I think I will leave the others out there. The other day I saw some other type of tall strappy leaves that look like some kind of lily but not a crinum (at least doesn't look like the others I found). I will have to wait and see what it blooms into. ~sjn

Barry, have you been able to smell that wonderful scent p. Incense has? That is a great B.D. present! I just love walking by mine and also love the way the perfume wafers into my home when the door is opened. It's true that p. Incense has the habit of sprouting all over the place, but like you, I just think the bloom is so beautiful that I put up with it's rampant spreading. I either pull the sprouts out or just mow them over, but still have several vines growing up in different places. I plan to start one in a large pot and try to control the roots that way.

I didn't know it had a scent! I have noticed that it has more growth at the base that is hard to control, than there is on the arbor. I am wondering, if I prune the new growth from the base, will it encourage shoots up the pole?

Barry, I would just let it go!! This one is our favorite and ranks up there with P. Elizabeth! We had one for several year until we sold it, now we are kicking ourselves. Let me know if you want to trade later as we have several others. A great way to celebrate!! ; )
