I used to just hate these things, but when I realized what they turn into, I became infatuated with raising some! I collected several tobacco worms with red horns (thought they were tomato worms until I did some searching online).
I finally found 2 REAL tomato worms with black horns in the last few days. One of them has stayed bright green all along, but this one is very interesting. It was bright green, then shed out to this dark color yesterday. I thought it would brighten up to green...maybe caught it right after shedding...but today it is still this dark color.
Is this typical of the tomato hornworm? Like I said, my other one has stayed green as it grows, and it was a little smaller than this one when I found it. Funny how beautiful these things are once you get past the EWWW factor!
