Sorry, more OT pond progression pix

OK I dont want to get out of control with these pond pix, I don't want to annoy anyone..so this is the last ones I will be posting till I get more stones to do the edges and waterfall. When it is pretty much done I will post again. I just wanted to show what I did yesterday and this morn. Yesterday I got down some plants around the outer edges, and got some mulch down. Put some more rocks along the back, along with some bare root plants in the water. Re-potted 11 brugs yesterday, my baby BOP I started from seed over the winter..and something else I can't remember right now, lol. Right now we are getting rain so they are all along the front edge of the pond to get some of that loverly stuff.

I decided to get rid of my one smaller bed, as the plants were being choked out by fibrous tree roots..damn mulberry trees. SO I used them around the pond as well as seedlings I still had in pots. So happy I didnt have to buy any plants..yet. I do need more evergreens tho..so far all I have is the variegated liriopes from that small bed.

First is my kitty Swiper..caught him loungin last night. Since the fence has been down he is constantly in the garden, just loves it in there.

O and I am happy to report that I finally have some dat buds ready to bloom!! Purples and a white. finally! I had given my mom a few on mother's day that I had started, didnt know what kind they were, name wore off. She has had a bloom already, a triple yellow frilled. I am so jealous, lol. Wish I coulda seen it. My triple yellows dont even have buds yet.

With our storms comin today I really hope my brug buds dont get knocked off. Supposed to be severe..calling for hail, wind, very frequent dangerous cloud to ground lightning, ya know, the fun stuff. A few people died in our bad one last Sunday..one guy got hit by lightning and killed, 2 others injured on the same beach we go to. Glad we werent there. Lotsa folks getting hit by lightning this summer.

Daniella I am only speeking for myself. But don't stop sharing your pond pictures. I can not believe how great everything looks in such a short time. You are unbelievable. The heat is getting to me so badly that I am not even pulling weeds lol. That is just a great looking pond you made there.
LOVE the kitty. He seems to love it in your garden very much too.
I am still hoping to get some double purple and yellow dats myself. Got everything mixed up when I planted them so I do not know what is what anymore. Crossing my fingers for you that you get some soon.
But I will cross them especially for your safe keeping. That you get no damage when the storm comes.

don't apologize- I'm enjoying all these and your other photos of your pond- WOW!!! You are doing terrific! How the heck did you keep the liner clean and your water crystaline?? It won't stay that way but sure looks neat to see the bottom!!

Lori_Carolos, we don't have the resources either! LOL! Everything we do is on a shoestring and DIY. Our friend doesn't charge much for the digging and the liners are used vinyl billboards we get to cover hay bales on our farm! Most of the plants have been begged, borrowed and stolen from friends and various other spots on our farm. The fish are 27 cents at PetSmart and some were given to us. Most of the waterlilies we got for free from my brother and a guy who advertised on Craigslist. So, jump out there and DIY like we do everything around here! I always joke that I cut my own hair and my dogs--and with the same scissors. And, it's true! I'm posting more pix from today in a new post soon.

Thank you everyone :) I tried to take a pic tonight..put up some lights, but only 2 so far..8 more to go. Just wanted to get the ones around the pond right first then I'll do the rest. It's a lil blurry, and I took it from kinda far away to get the whole thing in..but, I love what the lighting does for it. Looks so much better at night, in real life..not so much the pic, lol. But I didnt want to use flash. Thank you everyone, you're all too nice to me. And the plant offers..too sweet..thank you very much! Theresa I sent you an email :) Thank you! Marian, yes you are correct, I had to adjust things when I saw the slope. I def didn't want any runoff going in the pond! Big muddy mess! It was a major PITA getting them just right, and was especially hard getting the ponds level since I don't have a level, lol. I had to eyeball it, but I did pretty good with that :) And I tried to get the soil around it all as level as possible. LOL, the kids have been teasing the last 2 days that they wanna go in the ponds. Caught my son playing in it with his fingers..hopefully once the plants are done they won't be able to get close enough to dip their fingers or toes in, lol. Thank you Barry! I do plan on getting some tadpoles, and some tree frogs. I would love to, but I can't get Koi, they wouldn't be too happy, they get too big for my set-up. My son is NOT happy about that. I plan on getting some shubunkins & placos. Shubunkins get 10" so they will be OK..Koi get from 2-5'. Maybe I could get baby Kois and just give them away when they get too big..hmm somethin to think about. The lotus is in the black tub between the 2 ponds. My spots for the brugs have changed again, lol. Still def gonna have some around the pond, just not sure of the spots. I'll post more pix when I decide and have them in :) Mary, thank you. Don't worry about it, I know you're a busy woman. You take your time and just let me know :) Gloria..that's how I started out last year. Hey containers are better than nothin! And easier, lol. Yes Kristy, you will need another pump, the main pump that pumps your whole capacity at least one time an hour. That should go from your lower pond to your main filter, which then goes out to your upper pond. No, you can't do a loop cuz gravity is a major factor here, and you can't make water go up without the energy from the pump, lol. These are water plants, alot of them like to be bareroot in gravel and do better that way. Most of mine are bareroot in gravel. The roots kinda float around and help the water stay clean too. They'll be fine bareroot, and think how much easier it will be to bring them into the garage if you have to when winter comes. O wait a min..when you say 'make a loop', do you mean with the existing pump you have? Take some tubing and go from bottom pond to upper pond? You can do that, but how many gph's is your current pump? It's probably too small, and if the water isn't getting cycled properly, that's alot of problems. It's like trying to use a fish tank pump/filter on a swimming pool. If you do use dirt in your pots, use garden soil, or aquatic plant soil..don't use the potting soil. Top it with some gravel..I use pea stone.. Get the whole pot soaking wet by sitting it in a bucket of water or something first..this will get most of the air bubbles out, and make the soil wet enough where it won't come up too easily when you put the pot in. make sure it is completely wet, then slowly lower the pot into the water, tilt it slightly, and let the water go over one side real slow, straighten the pot and place it. This will keep any dirt from getting into your water and muddying it, also will prevent air bubbles from coming up and splashing in your face, lol. Sorry your fishies are gone :( All my koi are dead. Fungal thing. I went and got some fancytail goldfish, treated the whole pond for the fungal thing..if the goldfish are still OK in another week, maybe I'll get another koi. Those black waterfall things are cheap, I just don't see how a person could cover that up well? I'm having a heck of a time trying to cover the sides of my pond! I don't want to see that black! I really don't want too many rocks, I want plants to cover the sides. Besides, whatever crafty sneaky lil creature that is messing with my pond, probably a raccoon, keeps knocking the rocks into the ponds! And keeps messing up my waterfall! WHat a PITA to fix the rocks everyday. I'm tempted to use the black waterfall foam sealant to keep them in place, lol.

Thanks everyone! CC, the blooms on that daylily are a good size too! Almost 6" across. I got them last year, and this is the first time they are blooming for me, I absolutely love them! Kristy, as long as the tuber is growing, all that water should be fine. When the tuber isn't growing and is dormant is when it will rot from too much water. Water it well every day, and hopefully you'll get some new shoots. Mary, you should have them help you weed as well! I hope it's not that bad! ooo I hate those weeds. I want to know..why is it that dandelions always come up at the base of your wanted plants where they are so hard to pull? Are they smart? lol Thanks again everyone :)

Thank you everyone. I was so worried I was being a PITA. I am so happy you enjoy my pix.

GG, I went and peeked at my dat buds before, and I have a Tatula Le Fleur opening..it's the one I thought was going to be a white, but I can see the lilac now. This will be my first dat bloom!! Will post pix after they bloom..keep those fingers crossed for me :) thanks! O and I have more purple buds than I thought..PLUS I have a big one I think will be a yellow..*fingers crossed :)

HAHAHA!! Brenda, the water gets cloudy in the afternoon, think its from the sun..I read that somewhere. And there is a very fine film of dust on the liner..can't help it with the dogs always running around, but it's not that bad. It IS great to be able to see the bottom, water so clear. I don't want that algae to come when it's cycling!! but I know it will. Hopefully the plecos will keep on top of it. I am using beneficial bacteria to speed things up.

I have decided to remove the preform the fish were in previously. I think I cracked it when I was trying to catch the plecos..but I got em today!! they are SO fast.
So instead of making a raised brug bed in the middle of the yard with the extra dirt, I will just fill in that hole, and put some brugs there. Still keeping the lil'est preform going though. Started deconstructing today..hey I was able to use the rocks from it, lol. Still need alot more.
I have to check the weather again..we still didnt get any storms? Had a bit of rain, couple claps of thunder and that was it. I am counting on that rain!

I also love any pics... keep em coming. I really want a pond.. maybe next year. Those cuttings are great, I think I lost all my co-op cuttings from not potting them up when they needed it...lesson learned.

Wow, Daniella! Looks like it's been there a long time! So nice! Put some of that sweet potato vine down to cover some of the pond edge. It grows super fast! I'm glad the lilies have room to spread.Keep on posting.

Daniella make sure it is the Ornamental ( it is called ornamental or= man that mileage stuff at night gets to me lol) kind. Don't do like I did and try to grow one out a sweet potato. It works but sure looks a LOT different hahahahaha

Thanks Theresa! I already did :) You can see it in the back edge of the pond behind the water iris on the left. Trying to keep it IN the pond so it doesn't make the water wick out. The SPV still in the Skippy on the small preform is monstrous! It's like it's gonna take over the whole area! I bought a "Blackie" SPV, it's at the feet of Lucky's Brug..planted in ground and in water sure makes a big difference! I think I may take some cuttings off 'Blackie' and put them in the pond as well.

I really want to cover up the sides with spreading low evergreen plants, I don't want that rock ring look, ya know? I know what i want, I just have to find it. HD and Lowes suck this year. Sooner or later, I'll get them.

daniellalell--the pond looks terrific! Lots of hard work but you'll enjoy it for years to come. I am glad the brugs are doing so well for you. The water lilies are gorgeous! I need one for my pond-will have to start looking for one.
