More than likely it was too much too fast; that is, it was too much light and a change in its conditions for what it could handle. I would move it under a porch for awhile until it recovers. Let it get far less light for now.

Here in Austin, I set mine where they got direct sun until noon for a few days, then moved them into direct sun until noon + dappled shade till 4ish for a few days, and now they are in direct sun all day and growing like weeds.

Thats what I thought. I must've gotten too excited and put it right out in the sun too fast. It is in a small 2.5 in pot right now.. how much water do you think I should put in the bowl underneath it? about half the pots height or more or less? Thanks for your help!

The important thing is that the roots aren't submerged in water, or they will rot. I have mine sitting in a dish of about 1/2" of RO water. I have to water it every 2-3 days to prevent the dish from drying out.

With VFT's, to avoid the root rot thing I keep them in deeper pots. This way the pot can be in some water, but well below the roots.

It's great to hear from some other enthusiasts in Texas. We have tree rats (squirrels) so bad that I don't dare leave mine outside. Many on this forum advocate the outdoors for CP's and I have seen spectacular pictures.

A 5 inch pot would be about perfect for a Venus Flytrap. As petiolaris and bob123how indicated, they do not like their roots drowned, but they like to have water ready for the taking with constantly moist soil. About 1/4 of the pot or less should be in water. I ususally place a 5 inch pot in 1 inch of water, then let the tray begin to dry between waterings, about every 3 days or so.

In this case, it was leaf burn. Any plant that has been in low light conditions for several weeks will loose their ultraviolet resistance and experience leaf burn when placed back out into full sun. Slow adaptation is best in that you can place them in a morning sun window or in shade ouside the first week, a window that gets all day sun or partial shade outside the next week, and full sun after that. Several weeks of adaptation to stronger and stronger light intensity allows plants to build up a layer of resistance on their leaves (cuticle of waxy substance). Leaf burn is usually not deadly, but temperatures over 100 degrees can eventually harm and kill Venus Flytraps too, so make sure to keep them cooler than that in the hottest months.

I took this picture (althought I know it's not the best shot, it's the best I could do) so maybe I could get some more advice. As you can see, all the flytraps turned brown and died so I cut them all off except for the ONE poking out in the middle. Do you think it will make it? Also, I've been looking around at other pictures of VFT's and compared them to mine and mine has all this green growth around it (slowly turning brown now). Is this normal? For now I have it in a shady spot outside to avoid sunburn and keep about 1/2in of distilled water in the bowl.

Well the good thing is that there are still green leaves. As long as it is still growing and green it is still alive. Just keep it watered and keep giving it partial sun for a week or so, then keep stepping up the intensity of light slowly until it is in full sun.

If the new leaves begin dying back too, then something is likely wrong with the soil or roots of the plant.

It is definatly dormancy.All the traps close and the plants start to die
