Need Help With ID on Native/Naturalized Plant

I have a few of these growing along my creek. They top out at around 3 feet tall. Seem to be very popular when the sun is out.

Those are beautiful pictures, Randy!
When I saw your pictures, the plant reminded me of a native plant that grows on my property in the bottom of the hollow where it's wet. Most of the plants have bloomed out, but I found one still in bloom -

I had forgotten the name of the plant, so I looked it up, and it's pluchea foetida/stinking camphorweed. I've never seen any butterflies use the flowers, but then I don't go to the bottom of the hollow that often. The picture of pluchea purpurescens/salt marsh fleabane in my wildflower book looks just like your pretty pink flowers - I'm sure that's what yours is.

Hi Sherry,

I Googled images of salt marsh fleabane and I think you nailed it. It's in the aster family. Need to check it regularly to see how many butterflies are using it. Searched both plants thoroughly but found no cats.

green_go - if a plant isn't native, you always run the risk of introducing something which may become invasive in your garden conditions. Once you factor in moisture, soil components and natural predators, it's always wisest to think twice before planting something unless experience has shown that it behaves in your garden. Certain native species can also run rampant when planted in areas where they aren't traditionally native. Have I erred when planting certain perennials after hints on this forum suggested they were invasive? Let me count the number of self-sown seedlings I've regretted. I've no experience with Filipendula since I've never been tempted to plant it. I just make certain I've done my homework before digging a planting hole or setting something in it. Not planting something has been my guide and = less regrets.

oh man, that's definitely jewelweed. you DON'T want to introduce that to your area :P it spreads like crazy cause the seeds shoot everywhere like Linda said. we cannot get rid of the stuff around here - I live in a freaking swamp, so it's to be expected :P but in all fairness I'm part of the problem cause I always have to play with the seed pods, LOL. my grandmother taught me the name "touch-me-not" too :D I learned years later that the plant was actually called jewelweed. it's seriously the juiciest plant I've ever seen, lol. I need ID help on six native plants

The first one is a redbud tree, Cercis canadensis. Number two - that is incredible, I've not seen anything like it. Where is this located (city,state)? Are the leaves really silver colored? Otherwise it reminds me a bit in structure of wax myrtle. Number 3 is a wild Rubus, something like blackberry. Four, I am not sure, what does the foliage look like? Five looks like a Baptisia, as does #6.

thanks for the info and answers. I think we've found it. My description was from memory after looking at it; and when I actually pulled one up and brought it in to scan , realized the info was off a little......I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me! going to go to aboretum tuesday to confirm.
