Ants, Ants, Ants-eating my cats & eggs?

Because of our tropical local, I have a lot of ants, lizzards and spiders. I often see lots of eggs on my different host plants, but often can't find the developing caterpillars.

I am suspicious that the ants especially are having a fine dinner at the caterpillars' expense.

Because I am trying not to use any poisons in my garden, I need to know some enviromentally (& butterfly) safe ways to eliminate these preditors. I am especially concerned about the ants. They are everywhere.

Last year I planted some mint at the bottom of some plants, but it didn't seem to help. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. SAVE THE CATS!
