A Mini Yard Tour

OK, here's a mini yard tour. There's a generic peach brug on the far left at the beginning of the video. As I moved to the right you can see the tall Stuttgart cannas, Lime Zinger EEs, Black Magic EEs, my Santa Rose brug (doesn't show up too well), some tall Red Stripe cannas, Siam Ruby bananas and Black Stem taro. Immediately to the right of the Black Stem is my humongous Euphorbia cotinifolia (a small tree at this point), basjoo bananas, dahlias, misc. tropicals, and ending up at the Blue China Fir. Not sure if this movie will run.

OK, just where in Northern IL are you all? I'm in the north central part near Ottawa IL. I'm probably still quite a bit south of everyone? Wish I was closer. I would really love to have some Hosta pals and I surely would have loved the "tour". I'm stuck here in the middle, to far north for the central IL Hosta society and too far south of you all....Wahhh! gardengirl nancy, I think they sell masking tape in all colors now (for painting). Maybe you can get some in green! Or better yet, get some in white & get some acrylic paint so that you can make the filler look realistic! I'm kidding, of course. SO glad I don't have slugs to leave holes. I just have deer... they take the whole damn plant!

Hey Myrle - twenty years. I have a couple of hosta that have been in the ground for 19 years and never moved. They're huge. I'll try to get some more pics soon (when I'm done planting - I'm two months behind because we've had so much rain in Chicagoland!) Cindy - those are Pineapple Upside Down Cake. Three on one side of the path and three on the other plus one more a few feet to the right. They're nice for edging and I think they're one of the easiest to deal with. Thanks for all the nice compliments everyone! Yes, things are touching on that side of the house. Started a new garden on the other side so have the waiting game over there. I will take pics soon of the whole yard. Connie took great pics - she said they turned out well because it was overcast. The ones I took about a months ago I didn't post because the sun was high and the yellows were so bright everything looked awful - and bad shadows. Tricky business! Westy PS Melati - I have a Silver Maple and another one that I hate....the roots are bursting out of the ground. I use an axe to chop them when they're in the way of a hosta I want to plant. NEVER again will I have maples.

SO beautiful!! I love it!!
I tried doing that a few weeks ago with my digital camera. but it was too jerky and blurry when I would move.
Everything is so lush and green..so nicely placed..love it all!

Dave that was a super great tour! I just absolutely love your arrangement of the plants. Color...size...it is GORGEOUS!

But you could have snug in that precious katie rose you know

I'm loving the multi patches of Musa 'Siam Ruby', I got one this year myself to try....grows like a weed. Have you ever seen your bloom or get fruit? They say it strictly ornamental, however, I have heard of some fruiting...
BTW, stunning garden...keep up the good work - looks absolutely amazing. Maybe, like you had received some advice or gardening tips from Martha Stewart....???? LMAO..!!!

Next time I'll narrate it. But the neighbors probably would have thought I was talking to myself! It is somewhat shaky. I'll work on that. Also, I think I need to take more closeups. I wish I could embed the video right into GardenWeb instead of it opening Photobucket. Anyone know how?

The plants are beautiful. Great combination of colors, sizes and textures. Next time try to hold your camera still. I felt like I was watching the Blair Witch Project! lol

Scott -- no, the Siam has never bloomed. I have four of them now and keep them in the garage.

Wonderful!!!! Love the design! Your Stuttgarts are unreal!!!!! Fantastico! Mine are in containers and look horrible. Are yours in afternoon shade? I love your lime and black EE's. I will be looking for those next year. Did not see any here locally. I did find a lime green hosta & lime green alocasia? The ones that look like mini-EE's? Love those new colors in plants.
