Podocarpus macrophyllus planting recomentation
Comments (14)I am having trouble figuring out exactly what are the objectives. Shade and street appeal does not seem to be included in the goals. You say screening of front (that being the area in the picture where there is lawn?) So it sounds like privacy is a concern. Do you mean complete visual obliteration of the house similar as you have it on the side...but just with "young blood" that is skinnier and fresher? Is there a concern for "street appeal"? (That tree/shrub showing in above pic overlapping the fireplace is the height and girth that Podocarpus grows to here after a few years...but I am in Fl., not California.) Are you trying to make a green "wall" around the house? No interest in shade trees that are taller than the house and cast shade from above? If you are trying to achieve certain effects, I cannot yet perceive what they are. You're just asking about spacing--which would vary depending on the effect you're trying to achieve. So that's what you need to tell about...effects that are desired. (If street appeal ends up being a concern, a photo taken from the front would be needed.)...See MoreCan you help? Pics.
Comments (5)It is a Podocarpus, the lady at the nursery told me it is an indoor tree and has a relative the Feathering Uwe that lives outdoors? I went to soak it in the shower (even though the soil felt moist) and found tiny little snails living on the trunk. The nursery lady finally gave me the OK to bring it in and exchange it for a new one. Should I get a ficus instead? The room I am putting it in is very large and open. It is in front of a picture window to the north, a full length skinny window to the west and the room it opens into has Picture window to the east and to the south. It really is getting PLENTY of light....See MoreFicus or Podocarpus for hedge in narrow planter?
Comments (13)Bamboo will do what u want the fastest and with the least issues trying to create visual interest ficus only grows in sun its not a versatile plant and a huge invasive root that will bust concrete bamboo grows nicely w comtainmemt if you want to avoid hassles of both your answer is eugenia believe me podocarpus for an actual hedge is not practical takes a dozen years to capitalize om growth snd usually those seeking neighbor privacy dont have luxury of waiting however podocarpus meets all the other criteria just a slow grower ficus is one of worst and laziest option by gardeners at $10 for five gallon easy to plant but thats good for a diy job w much sun 8+ per day...See MoreColumnar podocarpus
Comments (14)It was nice while it lasted but def dead. We've had rains lately so hard to tell if soil was overly moist before. It has no tiny roots and what's there looks pretty dead. Have a new now waiting in the wings, but not knowing what went wrong makes it hard to avoid the problem next tume around, sigh...,...See Moretinahollywood
