Oh no! These 'eggs' have legs!

Just found yellow/goldish bugs on my milkweed. At first I thought I had a huge cluster of some type of eggs. There are 2 separate patches with probably over 100 of these tiny critters in each patch. They have teeny tiny black legs. What on earth are they? I suspect whatever they are it's not good.

Sounds like the dreaded aphids to me - mine are covered with them! :(

Shiollie... I haven't been here in a long time, but am getting re-involved. I'm in MI too and we've had some weird things. Like tons of large toads and not a single male toad calling out for mates this spring (first time that's ever happened), and our fish are doing their majort spawning now (a month late). This is the best and most established our pond has ever been, and with the warm weather I expected this in late April... not mid-June (and still no toad calls). Can you take a picture of your pond and the frog eggs? I'd like to see what you have so maybe we can replicate something close to it to get our Green Frogs to reproduce in our pond. Thanks! Lol Donna. Unfortunately I don't have the time and dedication to feed the blues mealworms. However, one year the male lost his mate and had 4 nestlings to take care of, and I fed waxworms that were in a small cup on top of the box. Mr. Blue would grab one or two, then immediately go in to feed. When they ran out, he was chit chit chitting, as if to say "more worms, please!" I would think, however, that one or two days old would be too young for them to eat mealworms/waxworms. I'd think they'd only need a little food. I think I'm more concerned for the parents being able to feed themselves, but I've seen them dive for insects in 30-40 degree weather! Thanks for the feedback!

All materials listed in above post are "chemicals" including water. What people usually mean when they say chemicals is synthetic chemicals. And County Extension agents are as on top of relatively benign control regimens as anybody, more than most in Florida I'll wager, where heavy chemical use seems the norm. There was nothing in my above post-a simple bit of advice to seek counsel from experts-that should be construed as my advocating for heavy synthetic chemical use. Or maybe that's not where you were going with that, Fawnridge! I'm in one of those moods, having just gotten unfairly maligned in "Container Gardening" by a sneaky, passive-aggressive repost to something I'd written earlier. It's the growth of simple fungal hyphae and mycelium from a fungus that is feeding on the potting medium. This fungus (mushroom) is commonly found in houseplants. It's time for you to find a better container! Do a little research about the best kinds for the type of orchid you have. It can be very inexpensive.

And all you can do is squish 'em! If you look, you'll probably find a few ladybugs and other predators taking advantage of these colorful aphids, so they'll help out a bit, too. For those of you in the deep south who have 'lovebugs' flitting all over the place, someone emailed me wondering what the heck they (the lovebugs) were doing all over those aphids. She was hoping (sorry) that they were feeding on them, but they were just after all of that sweet honey-dew that the aphids excrete. Darn it!!!

tdogmom, that was a great page. The aphids have been blasted with water. I'll continue to check each morning to see if I need to repeat. Thanks all.

Oooh, I hate those darn Oleander Aphids!! I squoosh as many as I can. Once you have one it seems like 100 appear in no time. They about make my skin crawl when I see them in their clumps. Ewwwwwww!!!!
