kawaiineko: You're on the right track keeping up with the weather & knowing that the plants can be aggravated when they're potted up, but that it helps them. I transplant mine either once or twice, depending upon start date. I start the seeds in whatever container (3 inch square pots this year with Pro Mix Seedling Mix) & keep them in there until they get rootbound (if using pellets or something smaller, transplant them earlier). At that point, in the past, i'd move them from the cell/pellet/etc. into 16-20 oz plastic cups which hopefully last until they go in their final homes. Trick is to only transplant when they get rootbound cuz it's much harder then to distrub them. They may very well still "stall" growth for a week or so after a potting up, but don't worry about this, they are growing where you can't see (roots) at that time. They'll take back off. Anyway, all this usually takes up about 2 months until they just have to go into their final homes. Hence, 2 months from last frost date here, which is the middle of February (ish). TT, I can't answer either of your questions but I will make a suggestion. If either/both or your plants do become established you may want to try grafting on some proper fruit-bearing scions to your root stock. There are plenty of people on these forums that would be willing to send you cuttings for postage or trade or if you know of anyone w/a nice tree you can ask for a few cuttings.

Hi Jane, thanks for responding. Here in Jamaica plastic pot are easily accessible, but small clay ones are almost non existent. , as for basket still a problem large ones yes small one . Hardly ever I am trying to use clear plastic ones which I ordered from repot me.com. I am out of small ones now. So I guess I will just have to use the 4" green one. And yes I use charcoal and stones for my dens and catts I realize I do much better with them in that mix because of my heavy hand watering. So your saying repot them? Thanks. Velleta

Progressing nicely, I am hardening off the L. schwantesii v. urikosens, and starting the process with the L. meyeri soon. 6 happy seedlings of each, and 3 of the villetii now. Was hoping for better results, but happy with what I have. I got the seed from The Cactus Store, and just made another seed order. I really want some Agave parryi, so bought seeds if the var cousei type, and since I was paying shipping anyways, a couple of Trichocereous cacti, and for Mesembs I ordered L. dorothea, L. bromfeldii v glaudinea, and Titanopsis hugo-schlecterii. My favorite of the Titanopsis, quite excited. I will reserve the Mesembs seeda for fall planting, the cacti and Agave I will start right away.
