How common are twin black swallowtails?

I have searched and searched to get an answer to this question, and I was given this site in the hopes that I can get an answer. I rescued about 8 black swallowtail cats from an untimely death (my mom's garbage can). Two of them ended up surving the birds in my back yard, so I brought them inside. They formed their chrysalises, and Sunday morning two butterflies ended up in the terrarium. One ended up dying, it had a wing that didn't form properly. We were baffled, and thought for sure the second chrysalis must have hatched, but there was no evidence of a breakage. Yesterday, the second chrysalis hatched, with another beautiful butterfly in it, this time a single one. My question is, how is this possible, and how common is it to have twins?
