Go to ebay. There is some guy running a ebay aquarium plant store, he has no shipping! (Im not him, just had good experience ordering from this person) I ordered 4 different plants, good size bunches for under $15 and no shipping charge. I do not think I can mention his ebay store name on this form. Anyway, search ebay for java moss, youll find his store. He has tons of stuff. He mails it in a bag inside of a box. The plants for me came in very good condition, snail free. The only problem is he does not offer 1 or 2 day air. It took me 3 days to get it. For java moss, I dont think that amount of time will hurt it. Good luck.

I think your right. Some people don't want to care for their pets. They buy them and let them sit as if they were wall hangings. But, some people aren't about status. When I bought 3 betas from the store I had a seperate tank for each of them, one beta tank ( you know the 1 lt tetra tank) and two bowls. I was told that they only live for 2 years. That seemed like an acceptable life span for a fish, and I didn't want to be committed any longer than that. I cleaned their tanks every week, talked to them every day, named them. After 3 years I moved them up to larger living accomidations (even though they are "supposed" to like small places), and they loved them. After a while they gave me the eye attitude resenting the fact that they weren't again upgraded. So I bought them each a 5 gal tank. Again they loved them. Those guys lived 6 1/2 years!!! The pet store couldn't believe it. They had so much personality that after they died I bought another one. I put it in the 5 gal tank. It lived only 1.5 years- and had none of the attitude :( I'm not going to buy another. But, I loved them very much and fussed over them constantly. I had the slim coat, and the special foods and gravel, only the soft plants etc. Anyway, what I'm trying to say is that not everyone is irresponsible, just misinformed. And I think your right, the pet store needs to know what they are doing and tell people the optimal not minimal conditions required for a pet. I'm glad I had them, but if I was told they would live for 6 + years I would have rethought the situation- like getting a dog.

Ditto Bitter Apple or something else foul-tasting or -smelling... to the dog, that is! There are also dog repellent products for use indoors (make sure you read the label). All usually need to be reapplied fairly frequently. I can tell you by unpleasant experience that you should wear rubber gloves when applying Bitter Apple or suchlike products, because you CANNOT get that taste out of your mouth for hours! If you like the smell of citronella, most dogs do not and you can pick up a small bottle of citronella essential oil at a health food store and put several drops around the bottom of the plant. Some people recommend cayenne pepper as a dog repellent but if it gets into the dog's eyes that can be a big problem. I've met more than a few dogs who will cheerfully eat rocks, so if you decide to use rocks make sure they are too big for the dog to get in his mouth and ideally too heavy for him to lug around the house. If he'll chew rocks (I know one Lab who will), don't use rocks - broken teeth are painful and expensive! There're also the mechanical tricks like the Tattle Tale alarm and inverted mousetraps under pieces of paper (there are also modified versions that make the snapping noise but don't actually have anything to catch a nose in - those are available in most pet supply stores).

If you want to keep your goldfish then forget about a warm tank as it is unnecessary. Goldfish come in a variety of shapes and colors nowadays that you can find a few mates to go with your Goldfish. You should get the largest tank you can afford. What you would need is a filter and airstone combo and a hood with lights. You can plant a goldfish tank but your best bet is using something that is probably called Anacharis or Elodea that is sold in bunches and is weighted down with metal strips. Just leave the plants bunched up. The fish will eat on the plants but if you feed properly then the plants should last a while. Besides this type of plant is fairly common and not as expensive as other types that could not handle the abuse that bottom feeders like goldfish would provide. I would not recommend using any other fish in the tank with the goldfish. You will probably find yourself with a small population of snails that will come in with the plants. The only other fish that would do well in a cold water tank that might be available in the UK is something called a Dojo or Weatherfish. These are from China and can bury themselves in the gravel of an aquarium. Be sure to find a pet shop or aquarium shop and talk to the personnel there with your needs.
