My first brug is blooming!

I didn't think it'd happen but these things grow like nuts! This one was purchased at a local flower festival where some master gardeners had a booth, it had one cane and a few leaves. For $15 I thought what the heck, I'll give it a try. It's very windy out today so that's why the blooms look kinda closed, they are just getting super sideways blown. But I have blooms!!

Oh I'm so happy for you! Its beautiful and I love the color. I'm new at growing brugs too and have a few seedlings and some cuttings. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on about them, so hopefully soon, I'll be right there with you with my first bloom. I've heard its addictive. Do you want to run out and buy another one now?

Such a pretty white. What beautiful bloom for such a small plant. He must think he came from Texas. LOL ...I have not had a white bloom yet. I am looking for some but the Grimaldis, Seuss and my pinks are running away with it. I might have to get a cutting from you in the winter if my whites do not show up soon. Thank you I was a little nervous there but they look great I have them on the steps coming up to my porch but will have to move the one soon it's getting so big For the winterI just brought them in and watered hardly at all my hallway has no heat vents so it is cool there.I'm not sure about the large one I got 3 from a trade lost one to bugs and one never really survived the trade they weren't rooted.So I don't know which one survived either pink, peach or white and the smaller I got from a plant swap with neighboring gardenwebbers last fall she said it is frosty pink. Thanks for the info.Everyones pictures are great.I can't wait to see my own blooms. Patty

Oh I did one better, I buzzed on over to a local fellow Garden webber that I met on the Texas forum and she took serrated knife and whacked off a stem of one of her huge brugs for me. (I love this forum!) I took it, stuck it in a 2 gallon pot with some potting mix and a stick next to it to hold it up and watered it well. It wilted and bent over almost in half and all the leaves fell off. After 1 week it's now straight and sprouting new leaves. I can't believe how easily these things root!

I checked my blooming one after the sun went down and all those blooms are now fully open and just beautiful!!!

I haven't noticed a fragrance yet but it's so windy out that my neighbors might. I'm going to check it this evening again and see. Or rather smell.

I find mine to be intoxicating. I have no idea if it is real or imagined. I do have a keen sense of smell. I can smell my night blooming Jasmine throughout my closed house.

Lift that flower and smell...

I don't have an Ecuador Pink but do have some other pink varieties that all seem to have a pleasant light fragrance, not nearly as strong as the yellows or peaches. I do have an Ecuador White that I can't detect any fragrance from but my sense of smell isn't great.

My ecuador pink has a strong scent. It takes her a day or so to color up pink from white. Her blooms hang straight down and she will actually lift/recurves her skirt at night (after turning fully pink) and then here comes the fragrance! The first time she bloomed she was a small cutting that had a y and I put her on the kitchen counter just so I could keep smelling her while I did the dishes :)
Mine only seems to bloom in fall- not sure why, except maybe the heat but that variety did that for me when I lived in Louisiana too and it wasn't quite as hot there.
She is not liking the heat here now.
