Last year the flowers on my big bush didn't appear to make any seeds, unless they're so small they're hard to see. There are jillions of spent flower balls on the bush, which is huge now, so hopefully they'll develop - their pollen has certainly been well spread around by the tiger swallowtails! I'll keep an eye on them, and I'll send you seeds if they make any.
Buttonbush is real easy to root - that's how I got mine. All I did was take a cutting from a roadside plant, put it in wet potting soil, but it in shade, keep it damp, and it rooted quickly.

Thank-you. Tiger Swallowtails are not found in my area but I am hoping that I may get one and it will be a record.

Buttonbush attracts a lot of different butterflies and lots of bees. I Googled Cephalanthus occidentalis (scientific name for buttonbush) and saw a picture of the seeds - they're smaller than I thought they'd be, but now I know what to look for.

Not if they don't naturally occur in your area, but it'll sure attract other butterflies that DO naturally occur there.

Well. The Tiger Swallowtails are a Hypothetical species meaning that it is very possible that they occur here in the RGV but there needs to be proof. (a photo) Same goes for Red Spotted Purple and Viceroy.

The Mourning Cloak is a very Rare butterfly in Hidalgo county (right next to my county of Cameron)

That is why I am looking to see if anyone has eggs or larvae or pupae of those butterflies.

Anyway what other butterflies come to Buttonbush that you have seen?
