Giant Swallowtail emerged - quick questions
Comments (11)I think you're right Carol. I will just keep at it and hope I'll eventually see more. This may be my last try with Pentas. They're always the same size at the end of the summer as when I first plant them and never have more than two flower clusters at a time. There must be a secret I don't know yet. I grew Butterfly Red last year and another dark pink one and never saw butterflies on them. The butterflies were all over the Butterfly Red at a display garden near here though. They just didn't like mine. My lantana last year grew like gangbusters. It really impressed me. I've been watching for Miss Huff and haven't found it yet. They also had 'New Gold', something Cream that was pale yellow, Flame Improved and a couple others. I need to research which ones they like best....See MoreNew Black Swallowtail mom needs help!
Comments (7)There are many possible reasons why the 9 cats disappeared. Several or all of them may have died as hatchlings - when a cat dies naturally, it'll usually happen when it's a hatchling or a very early instar caterpillar. Ideal temperatures for caterpillars are higher than the 70's, so the lethargy of your cats could be from that or, more likely, the low humidity. Air conditioning and heating both lower the humidity in your house to a level that is bad for cats, at least our southeastern ones, who are adapted to high humidity. I've never had much success rearing mine in the house in what I thought were perfect conditions, so mine stay on the porch in a sheltered situation with ceiling fans blowing if needed, no direct sunshine, but with all the natural heat and humidity. I read somewhere that eastern big moth cats don't do well in the low humidity out west - it has something to do with their ability to take in air through their spiracles. So I imagine that eastern butterfly cats breathe better in higher humidity, too. Another possible cause is the parsley itself - it wouldn't have insecticides on it, would it? That would be deadly! I raise my cats in butterfly cages - they're made of a simple PVS frame covered with mesh - they have a zipper for easy access. I also use florist's water picks and/or leftovers containers filled with water, with a hole cut in their top just big enough for the host plant material. Good luck! Comments (10)Yeah. We did a bit of research on this a week or so ago (a little late for our order but we wanted to see if the seller's story was true). They got bought out/back in early December and now they are supposedly moving / consolidating. *sigh* Also wanted to clarify - the "emergency" is this is my (possible) chance to change my mind and go with pulls I like more. But I need to find the info ASAP....See MoreEmergency design help needed!
Comments (10)The mystery of the missing 3" is solved. Your blind corner notated on the diagram as being pulled 2 1/4" (really should be 3"). However, if it's a standard 42" BBC, which is usually a 42"/45" it's not being shown as being pulled on your diagram. It's shown as occupying 42" of space. A blind corner base has a minimum and maximum to be pulled. It's going to need to be pulled to 45" to not interfere with your range, but on your diagram, it's shown as flush to the wall. BBC come in 36"/39", 39"/42", and 42"/45" in most lines. If you wanted the cabinet to occupy the 42" space and give you clearance around the range, the choice should have been a 39"/42" BBC pulled to 42". That would have fit your diagram as shown. What you have won't let you open your BBC drawer with your range there. That accounts for the 3" for base cabs but not the uppers. They will no longer by symmetrical in matching the lowers. Your 18" wall cabinet on the right will need to be switched to a 21" cabinet, or a 3" filler added between it and the corner cabinet if you want to maintain symmetry between uppers and lowers. That accounts for the 3" in the uppers. Really and truly, you need whomever measured this kitchen to come back out and make sure there aren't any other measuring errors to be dealt with in this design. Using the non pulled dimension of the BBC is an amateur mistake and at this point, I wouldn't trust them to have gotten everything else right, including the correct dimensions of the original kitchen. Take your tape measure and measure that NOW! And then measure out your diagram yourself with a tape measure and a pencil on the wall to verify....See Morebettyfb
