I love White Peacocks and at one time had Bacopa and did raise a few. I went back to where I found the Bacopa growing along a ditch on a side road but they have now put in drainage and there was none to be found. No local nurseries here have it.

I have seen one lonely WP in my yard. They love the SAlt and Pepper bush to nectar on. Hmmm... would you like to trade a cutting of your Water Hyssop for a cutting of my Salt and Pepper?

Mary, I will try to do better than just a cutting of the Water Hyssop, let me check around and see if I can find a 4" pot of Water Hyssop for you. Shore Acres Nursery in Kissimmee is the supplier of the Water Hyssop to my local nursery.

You will have to tell me what a Salt & Pepper Bush is, I couldn't find it by that name. Mary

Mary, let me know when you are ready for more Gold Rim's. Or if anyone would like to pick some eggs or hatchlings up I'm in the Apopka area and have plenty to share. At last count I had about 5-6 clutches of about 15 eggs on the pipevine.

Was that Lukas that you got the WP cats from Mary? I've got Bacopa growing as a groundcover in the garden and alongside the house. Haven't found any cats yet this year and wouldn't mind picking some up.

I saw my one lonely WP this morning. It was sunning and nectaring on the Mexican Sunflower and Plumbago. For some reason, I can't get the pictures to load. I go through my son's network site and its not up.

The Salt and Pepper bush isn't all that attractive but the bees and butterflies like it. I took a picture of it and will load it when I load the WP pictures. I don't know the proper name but it has a flower head about the size of a penny and is white with a dash of black in it. The leaves are rough in texture, a little crepe like touch to them. It is a native.

Let me know about the plant. I appreciate your help with it.

Mary, Is there anything else besides the Water Hyssop for a host plant for the White Peacock? I would gladly mail you some chrysalises if you have something. I have already released 16 White Peacocks and many are remaining in the garden. They love Lantana! Let me know, Mary

Well, according to my book, Lippa, also known as Matchstick, is a host plant and I have some of that. It is in the shade. Maybe that is why the WPs haven't found it. My Bacopa was always in the sun but kept in a pot lined with a plastic bag so that the soil was moist.

Belchum is another but I don't know what that is. Rueilla, the purple petunia looking flower is also a host. I HAVE seen them lay on that. The problem is that the blooms don't last but a day so when they drop and dry the eggs probably don't make it. I have tons of Reuilla. I guess I could cut the bloom off and watch the eggs.

Were you able to find a small pot of Water Hyssop? I would pay for the postage if you do or if you want to send a couple chrysalis. I have never mailed chrysalis. I guess you would have to cushion them real well and make sure that they aren't near emerging. How long are they in chrysalis stage? About a week to 10 days?

I have two of these that showed up in my garden today, well one was here yesterday and he came back with a friend today. I don't have a host plant but sure are nectaring on my lantana!

How lucky ya'll are to have the WP...I've never seen one before and they're gorgeous butterflies. Good luck with raising all of them. :)

I released my last White Peacock this week, giving me a total of 38 releases of these overlooked beauties! All of these cats and eggs came with the purchase of two Water Hyssop plants. Several have elected to stay in my garden and their favorite nectar plant is the lantana, but I have a weedy lawn that has something growing they also like. Green Shrimp-plant (Blechum brownei) has also been listed as a host plant which I plan to add.
Aqua 2528, where in Florida are you located? I have been blessed with an abundance of butterflies this Spring & Summer, more than I really can handle. I would love to share.

I released my six that you sent me. Still see one larger one and a smaller one hanging around. I checked the area around a retention pond (near a nursery where the guy goves me the passionvine I need to feed my ZLWS). He said there was a tone of Bacopa there last year but we couldn't find any along the edge. There were a bunch of WPs right in the middle landing on weeds that were about the standing water. Couldn't get to it to see what it was. Hoping to go back when it dries out a bit, if it does!
