heartzlink , I did nothing special at all. All of the info I am using to start out with is all on wintersow.org+ what others have so generously shared with me on their own experiences. I just took all the info and broke it into a seperate excel sheet for each month. For zone 7, here is the link. For zone 5 I copied all of this, deleted anything that did not germinate, ordered it but month sowed, seperated it into excel sheets on germination start month. No creativity here. Just cut and paste :) This is my first year wintersowing and I was feeling the newbie nerves. Q&A: Flowers Deer Avoid Question: We live in upstate NY, and have several areas that would be great for naturalizing perennials and bulbs. Can you suggest plants that would be somewhat deer-resistant? Answer: Deer are crafty, and if they're hungry, persistent. This is to say, take all "deer resistant" recommendations with a grain of salt because hungry deer will eat just about anything. That said, here are some choices that would work where you live: astilbe, bee balm, bleeding heart, columbine, coreopsis, crocosmia, crocus, daffodil, dahlia, foxglove, gloriosa daisy, hellebore, lupine, moss pink, pincushion flower, poppy, purple coneflower, and thyme. The only guaranteed solution to keeping deer at bay is a fence -- one tall enough that deer can't jump.

Hi, Albert; I WS Little Bluestem last winter and had good results. I sowed the seeds in the traditional milk jug in February - transplanted the whole HOS thing (it looked like a grass mat!) to a patio pot about 18" diameter in late May. The babies did well all summer and are sitting snow covered in their pot right now. I will separate them (and $ell them for Money!) this spring. Am not familiar w/ your Sand Dropseed, but I bet WS will work for you. BTW, I just used Miracle-Gro potting soil in the patio pot. You might want to add some compost to the sandy area where you intend to plant this grass to help hold the moisture. Best Wishes, Carol

Ditto with Laura, and I use my laundry room. My folding table becomes w/s central. I have a tote bin of potting soil down there already, and another bale to break into when I need it. Don't leave the soil where it can freeze..no fun. I sow about 10 2 litre bottles at a time, put them on a tray, and run them out to the deck. I spent November and December last year collecting bottles. They're now clean and ready to re-use this winter, although I don't plan on starting as many (ha ha ha)this winter.
