I have ordered lilies from Brecks, Veseys, Lily Nook, and Plantlilies.com and by far the best quality and true to name was the Lily Nook. The bulbs are of top quality and the service was the best bang for my buck. Remember that lilies are usually a plant once perennial, and when you factor in the cost of your lilies on an annual basis, they really are quite an inexpensive investment. Where else for a few bucks can you almost be guarenteed and annual joy such as lilies?

I have ordered lilies from Brecks,Gardenimport, Lily Nook, Parkland Perennials and S-W Gardens. I won't repeat the Breck experience, but all the others are very good.Some of S-W's bulbs were enormous (Ortega), and the martagon Black Prince is a better price there than any other place....and bloomed for me the first year.

I have ordered from some of the above mentioned but also from Ferme Les Champs Fleuris. Although I don't speak or write French I managed to figure their list out and received some very nice Lilies from them. They also carry a good selection of Siberian Iris.

MG, donÂt be surprised if you get one or two mislabeled lilies from Veseys, many of us from the the Far North forum have experienced this, keep your receipt because they do credit you if its not what you ordered. Botanus being the same.

IÂve ordered from Valley K Greenhouses(plantlilies.com), S-W, The Lily Nook, Hillcrest Harmony Flowers, Parkland Perennials, all these growers are reputable. Although my favourite is Valley K Greenhouses because its only a couple of hours away from me and IÂve always had great customer service.

I will only order from BreckÂs if itÂs a sale, otherwise the prices are way too high.

Sadly, the nearest lily growers to us seem to be in Alberta, a long way from Vancouver Island.

I was curious the other day, who in Canada has agapanthus, aka African Lily or Lily of the Nile?
My husband is partial to lilies and being a guy, like blue.

I order mine from Valley K and am very happy with them. Also they have great friendly service. They have already arrived this fall. Tried Lilly Nook for the first time and still am waiting for them to arrive.Hope they come before the ground freezes.

Went to check my mail today and there were my lillies from Lily Nook. Very healthy looking and I planted them right away. Oh spring is so far far away.

Technically, agapanthus is neither a lily or a bulb ;-) However, they are quite beautiful. You may have a problem growing them in your zone, I have lost a few myself, either to cold or wet.

Bit of irony, you are worried that the ground will be frozen, here we are waiting for it to get cool enough to plant. I have many daffodils and other spring bulbs in our closet downstairs, hoping they last. Fortunately the lilies have not arrived and probably won't for a while yet. Happy planting.

I take it, none of you are experiencing any difficulty with that dreaded, red lily bug.

I am planting new gardens, since moving to this home about a year ago

Would love to plant lots of lilies. But I had so much trouble with the lily bug.

I have some lilies and did come across a few in the new garden beds this year but managed to get rid of them. So it seems.

Such a shame it is to have the lily bug in ones garden It makes for so much work on a plant that previously, at least in my own experience, never had any problems, what so ever.

MG, why are you planting your lilies in pots, you live in zone 8 ;)
Knock on wood, but no Jap beetles here. Our winters are too cold for them to overwinter, that is one advantage of gardening in zone 2.

Hi:

Diane: We do not have the dreaded lily beetle here yet. The biggest worry is the mosiac virus (which came from tulips) which is spread by aphids. I have had to destroy a few lilies in the past years when this virus appeared (I assume it came with some bulbs I purchased a few years ago).

Sharon: As you probably know, lilies have a permanent root system. I grow mine in good sized pots the first year so they have no competition and can establish their root system. I then plant the whole clump in the garden the next year.

A secondary consideration can be colour. Some bulbs are mislabeled and some do not look like the prety photo you seen when you were purchaing them;-) Not too big a deal to me as I am not as fussy about colour combos as some are.
