should they go back in?

This is my third year with cannas - after the second, one of the boxes in the basement with peat moss broke and DH said no more. I left them in the ground thinking maybe they might make it, but this winter was much harsher than last so I figured thats it. Yesterday I was digging out the rotted mushy tubers (yuk) and started to come across some that were planted a little deeper and seemed firm. When I got them all out I found that about half might be salvageable. Is it possible they are still good? The ground was really wet so I thought it might be a good idea to let them dry out a little. They had no shoots.
