arbo_return, I realize this isn't what you were asking. And I haven't lived in New England for many, many years, and didn't know much about daylilies when I did live or vacation there. It seems odd to me that there aren't some daylily cultivars that bloom in August (maybe even early September?) in your area. I know that in northern climates, the later-season reblooming daylilies rarely have a second bloom period. But I assume that at least the extra-early and early-season varieties rebloom most years. Have you tried any late-season and/or reblooming daylilies? Or the cultivars like Stella de Oro which bloom nearly constantly through the summer (what's known as "extended bloom")? Here are two lists of extended bloom varieties. Unfortunately there aren't many of them, and they tend to be small-flowered. Mary and Karyn what a great underplanting! I love that a lot. Read most of the thread messages yesterday. NO time to find a picture of my underplanting. I used Periwinkle's and it worked great for me. By the end of the season they had covered the whole pot. The seeds that fell inside the pots are even starting to grow now! Got lots of seeds left so Dorothy if you want any, just fire me a e mail and say what color you prefer? My DH is not allowed to smoke his pipe next to them either. There is a virus that starts when brugs are exposed to nicotine. Sorry no more info cause my brain is on wintersleep roflmao. But also I learned the hard way before knowing not to put marigolds near brugs. I planted only 2 plants in a pot and the marigold grew so huge that it suffocated (sp) the Brug. Marigold also has a humangous rootsystem and you end up watering THEM instead of your brug. The Periwinkle's are not bad with the roots at all! Lucy

Wonder if they make small rock containers?? or I might have to lurk on the 'garden junk' forum? Jeff..matter of fact I do have a hellebore at the top of the pond! Nan...I have moss growing on an old brick pathway in full sun...how can it be transplanted? Slice & stick? That would probably look good along the bordering rock. Cannas multiply fast! Apparently its getting harder and harder to get healthier ones because of a canna virus (which nursuries spread buy selling infected cannas, but they dont know that they are sick). Im going to keep a lot of cannas this year for that reason. Some of mine havent poked out of the soil yet. I thought I would get a quick start to them this year because they have been out for a month without frost already, but instead they are comming up later than last year (I did start them earlier indoors though last year). Good news is hopefully this june will be warmer than last giving them some quick growth. When do your cannas flower? Mine usually begin flowering in late june, but last year it didnt get there first flowers until forth of july. It must be a nice feeling to have so many people in your neighborhood love that palm so much. Still dealing with snow there? Wow, I guess you get used to the snow there and besides your palms look much better than mine and Im 3 zones warmer than you (thats the equivient to my area and tampa!) I have a question. Do you remove the pups on the meddieranean fan palms or does is it naturally producing few pups? I know some medditeranean fan palms produce babies when its still young and others dont produce any until mature or maybe older. Good luck, it looks like a great gardening season is ahead for you!
