Kink free garden hoses and hose storage

I just recently bought a new hose and it kinksso bad I am ready to toss it out and buy a new one. What should I look for in a good, quality, kink free hose?

Also, what should I look for in hose storage? I have a roll up contraption now but it doesn't work very well. Its more work than its worth in my opinion but my wife gets sick of seeing the hose strewn about.

NeverKink brand is really good. I would buy the blue one for residential version, not the black one for commercial uses. I have both. I like the blue one much better. You can buy these hoses at OSH called "KINK-NO-MORE" or Target called "NeverKink". These hoses kink the least out of any hoses in the market.

Don't get many kinks myself....and I just buy the regular hoses from Orchard Supply.
When you pull in your hoses, lay them in a figure 8. Then when you pull them out, the coils come off from the top first and don't get tangled. This method is kinda neat looking as well, but I've never been one for rolling the hoses up on a wheel or similar device.
My yard is big and I got tired of hauling hoses, so I've utilized shut off nozzles and "y" stems and more hoses to make my life easier.

I don't have a problem with mine and my water pressure is pretty good on it too. There's several types and sizes. Get the thicker type and the 5/8in inside diameter. Then get a male and female ends like these: Male hose end Female hose end It's better if you also connect a swivel neck like this one from Amazon and attach it with the female end to the faucet: Swivel hose gooseneck and if you want to extend your hose in the future, it's relatively easy. Just get one of these barbed couplings and clamp the hoses together: barbed hose coupling Make sure you use teflon tape on all threaded connections to prevent any leaks. this is essentially my setup here, but I have a coupling valve key connected on mine instead of the female hose end. I installed coupling valves (It's that valve inside that black hole) all over my yard for quick access to water without having a faucet near by. My hose is also isn't very long (only 20ft) easy to carry and connect at each spot of the yard. This way I don't have to drag a 50ft-75ft hose and try to get around obstacles around the yard.

Lynnmarie, great description of this problem, my own pet peeve. From Home Depot website today: "Neverkink Watering Equipment 5/8 in. dia. x 75 ft. Heavy Duty Water Hose 8605 75, $35.97" This is probably the hose I've had for a few years. Note the yellow line on it. I pulled it out straight today, down my driveway, and the yellow line was a spiral. Seems I (right-handed) need a left-handed person to alternate my watering chores with me. It does have a few spots that tend to kink, but I think that if I had early on started unspiraling it each time I used it, they would not have developed. I inherited with my house a hose winder attached next to the faucet. I discarded all of it I could, and use the remaining brackets as mini planters. Hate winding a hose!

Want to repurpose old garden hose as soaker hose

Could it be your previous soaker hose leaked because it was used without a pressure regulator? Soaker hoses are designed to just "sweat" or slightly ooze water over an extended period of time and are recommended for a water pressure of 25 psi or less. The water pressure in a house or at most hose bibs is 45-60 psi.......running a soaker at that pressure without a regulator is pretty much guaranteed to cause leaks and sprays. Any spray coming from a soaker is a good bet you are not running it properly!! Together with the other bits and bobs you need for your hose conversion, make sure you get a pressure regulator as well. They will be sold in the same area as the hoses and other irrigation supplies.

I have hose troubles too.
I have had really bad luck with every hose I have bought from OSH recently. The regular hoses kink horribly. The
"Kink-free" hoses sprout leaks in them after just a few months. They are also stiff and hard to handle.
For storage, I have one of those boxes where you turn the handle and the hose reels itself in.

I also use a nozzle on the end of the hose where you can turn the nozzle to shut off the water. I think the water must build up pressure in the hose when I turn the nozzle to 'off.' Maybe that is stressing the hose fabric too much, so it develops leaks? (And it is not like we have good water pressure either).
I'm taking the hose I have now back to OSH because it developed leaks after only 3 or 4 months. It is supposed to have a lifetime guarantee, so I want my money back OSH!

The "lay them in a figure-8" trick works really well.

Another thing you can do is buy a Craftsman one from Sears. Then if it gets messed up just return it for a new one.

Also letting them sit in the sun for a while before & after using--they are so flexible and cooperative when the sun warms them up.
